Coaches
We are looking to get our field re-crowned/sprinklers etc... I have the thought that, though it may cost much more, would it be more cost effective (labor, water, additional practice fields) to put in field turf? Secondly, what cost would a school be looking at to put it in. I have seen prices for $5 a sq. foot. If any of you have gone to it, what have you done to off-set the cost/burden to the district or booster organizations. Thanks for any input.

Our total makeover was $750,000. All sports we have use it. Band uses it. Community football and soccer use it. Saves money for water, paint, labor, lawnmowers, fertilizer, chemicals and re-crowning or overseeding all the time. Our cost was helped by the Senior Games as we are the central location for these in our area.

same price for us as gamedog. hard numbers for saving per year on maintenance were presented as $30k. imho, way more than that when you consider how many of the sports can still go ahead and practice, how many moms won't have a total disaster to clean when the boys come home. also, kick in rentals to youth sports for gamedays and an occasional practice. only down side... the little black pieces of rubber that find their way into everything! ;D

I think our field turf came out at about $800,000--but it's awesome

The only downfall to turf is if you live in a hot part of the country, the temerature on the turf during practice is about 20 degrees hotter than on grass.

I hear that some programs are having problems with staph infections. Something about build up on sprint turf. Anyone else hear about this?
