Winning is a lot easier if you have recruitable kids. so are you suggesting that for schools in districts where kids can realistically choose between Everybody Else High and Super Studs High, they can choose the latter and that if programs don't actively advertise their numbers, they will end up with crappy talent? I do understand that dilemma, certainly not discounting the importance of efforting for your kids, but I'm questioning the amount dedicated to a position relative to it's maximum return. I totally understand the regional dynamics at play here, but even in TEXAS, I would find this position/title ridiculous Is it good to have relationships with local colleges to keep your kids interested in academics (through athletics)? yes Is there real value to having a maxpreps.com hype man on staff to influence your yearly W/L? I'd say no I would go as far (and my reason for questioning) that the overall numbers would serve the coach's ego more than the program's actual (not perceived) need. a recruiting coordinator? {censored} no itemizing plays on HUDL for exposure to colleges? part of the job for any assistant We had a reputation of not getting kids out, and for good reason. Our cross town rival got a new coach, started pushing kids out, and we saw the talent start to slide that way. We created the recruiting coordinator position at our school and the talent somewhat started to even out. Last year we had 6 kids get out (3 to FBS, 1 FCS, 1 D2, 1 D3) with only one really on any radar before their senior year. That is a record for our school. This year we might be lucky to get another 3-5 out to D2 programs and higher. Our area is littered with talent and sometimes it's easier to be looked over. And if you can help save a kid a couple hundred thousand in student loans I don't see a problem with it.

"College and Careers" may be a fitting use of terms. Good post. Good point, since few kids are going to play big-time football, and almost none will make a living off it. Football can be a means to a better future for them, and he can be the guy to help them figure out where they're going with their lives.
