Rediculous. If you look up the definition there is two major criteria for someone to be bullied. First your intent needs to be to intimidate, and/or make someone do what you want.
That's a real stretch to argue bullying in a sporting event.

The winning coach did say he pulled his starters after only 21 snaps. They didn't try to throw the ball with the big lead. I'm guessing the losing team just couldn't tackle the ball carrier. It would be a different story if he was intentially trying to run the score up by throwing the ball or running a no-huddle.

I just cannot see how you can't keep from scoring 91 if you actually do not want to score 91. I mean, if you are trying ok... but if you say, "hmmm.. how can I keep from scoring?"
well... ask the officials to run the clock... after being up by 50 run the ball out of bounds at the 1 and take knees or kick a fg... run FB dive...

Notice there was no bullying complaint filed in 1969 for the 103 pts. scored. Oh yeah, that was before society got soft...

I wonder if the 222-0 score posted by John Heisman resulted in a bullying compliant? No? I think we named the Heisman trophy after him instead.

Nothing more than a random internet "comment" so to speak. From the article, it didnt seem as though the person filing the complaint needed to do anything more than just fill out something online.... Basically just the same as posting a comment on a website.

In 1917 my high school won 122-0 on thanksgiving vs. our rival. This was during WWI and half of their school was called up to go fight in the war. Instead of cancelling the game some remaining male students volunteered to play the game. Our rivalry has the most meetings between two teams in the country so turkey day is a huge deal here, from the stories i've heard it was harder not to score than to score. No one cried bullying back then, I'm sure more people were concerned with the well being of their students off getting ready to fight a war.

I am reminded of a former principal years ago. After our girl's basketball team had soundly defeated an opponent in the playoffs, he received a letter from a parent on the opposing team complaining about the score. The parent, a lawyer, had written his complaint on the law firm's letterhead stationary, I guess implying that he was someone special who needed to be listened to. The principal wrote at the bottom "so sue me" and sent it back.

I am going to have to agree with this. I do not agree with the bullying complaint at all. Completely ridiculous. It does sound like the coach the tried to keep the score down. If someone beat me like this, the last thing I would do is complain publicly about the game. It is my job to keep them from scoring, not there job to stop themselves. But...... 91? We were up on a team last year 35 to 0 with 8:30 left on the clock in the first quarter. Dogs pulled off then. It was 69 to 7 at half. This is no exaggeration, at half, I met with our coaches and said, "we aren't going to be on the national news tomorrow and be the team that scored 100 on someone. What do we do?" Game finished 69 to 21. Same team this year. We were up 30 to 0 with 6 left in first quarter. Game finished 52 to 6. It sounds like the coach was not trying to run up the score. I am not criticizing the coach. I am just with airraider here wondering how does 91 happen?

I had wanted to stay away from this but here goes. We beat a team 91-10 this year. Funny how the points total was 91 like in Texas. We believe anything goes in the first half so our starters played the entire first half and ran our offense. Starting the Third our JV ran 3 plays and scored a TD. We blocked a punt for a TD. Freshman qb came in and threw a TD to another Freshman. Freshman running back goes 60 on a dive play. 91 points. Opposing coach thanked our header in the paper for subbing out and taking it easy. The thing is we have a running clock after a 36 point lead in KY. We were on running clock in the first quarter.

No, he stopped even calling the defense at Halftime I think and the mike backer just called our base every play after that.

When Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda were making easy rider in 1969 they were told to avoid Texas. The reason why is in Texas law enforcement would arrest what they called long hairs and shave them. In the cafe scene all the guys in the booth that talked badly about Fonda,Hopper and Nicholson were locals. Hopper said they paid them each 50 bucks to be in the move and to not beat them up. The men privately would call the film crew p-u-s-s-y communists.

Well, keeping in mind that the starting TB had four TDs on four carries it might take some serious scheming to find a way for that defense to atop anybody.

I am in no way saying he should have done anything to stop the scoring... but in the story he makes it out to be that he cannot find a way not to score... yes you can... It may be more insulting to the other team, but it probably wouldn't be making national new right now either... But you CAN find a way not to score.

I believe their time of possession was just around 9 minutes. 2 punts were returned for a TD and several "drives" were essentially a run for a TD. Much due to talent disparity but also due to poor tackling, poor effort, etc. Bottom line, there were guys carrying the ball - and scoring on long runs - that are simply not the type of player you go "man, that kid can score". They were using the backups to the backups. It's hard to tell a kid "don't run hard, don't score". a running clock was also in effect. Sometimes, it really is just that hard to keep from scoring. Crap, i've watched all Baylor's home games and they struggle keeping it under 80 at times.
we had a game this year where are 3rd tailback was breaking off long runs and scoring. had 50 by half. returned the 2nd half kickoff, picked off a pass, then 3rd stringer broke another. took our backup TE and taught him to play running back. we then "spread" the field (to help reduce the blockers for him) and gave him the ball the whole 4th quarter. if he had any speed - any speed at all - he would have broken several of them. he ran hard, the OL in the game played hard. fortunately, we didn't score our 11th TD that night.
sometimes, things just "align" where you can't help but put up points. all you can do is try to play as many kids as possible, calling plays that - in theory - aren't designed to be big plays. you don't want to humiliate by running out of bounds, or punting on 1st down, or playing your wr's at the OL and handing off to the center or crap like that... just try to have class and get the game over as soon as possible.

I've been in a district in Aledo. I know many of these coaches personally. Believe me, they weren't running it up in any way, shape, or form.
At the first school I worked at, their back-ups could still run the ball down our throats. I wouldn't have been surprised to see their second-string beat our first-teamers.
Not a smart thing to tell a second- or third-stringer to not go hard. Real easy way to get someone hurt.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Trying to contexualize it, and really think about how I feel about it while taking both sides into perspective... It should be noted that I've coached teams on the wrong side of these blowouts. (Not this bad, but still).
If any of the teams who beat us came out and kneeled I would have had blood shooting from my ears I would have been so angry. Don't ever embarass my team like that. Show us the respect of running plays with your back ups and playing football. I'm not even sure I'd be mad if they threw a little bit (though, I wouldn't want them throwing bombs on us for the rest of the game. Short, timing routes for practice are more than okay... [I'm not sure I'd throw the ball at all in a situation that we're up by so much, but I'd be okay with someone doing it to my team]).
I don't want my team to learn that it's okay to give up. I want my team to learn about losing and how hard it is and take something from the game other than, "THEY'RE MEANY HEADS!". You lose sometimes. Sometimes its bad. And there was really no redeeming qualities about the play on the field at all other than: 1) We NEVER quit 2) We learned what it feels like to lose that bad, and perhaps we should put more time in during the offseason, and work harder every day to try to prevent that 3) Life doesn't always make things easy, it's how you persevere and bounce back that matters.
But I promise, if I saw a team running, say, FB dive with their 4th string in and he broke free down field and there was no one near him only to have him "fall" or step out of bounds at the one yard line, I'd absolutely go ballistic. And if that kid DID take a dive... What a disservice to the kid. Probably doesn't get a ton of playing time and has an opportunity to score a touchdown and he is told to fall at the one, or get out of bounds... That kid probably works hard in practice, too, and deserves his moment. And besides that, telling him to go out of bounds or "fall" is essentially teaching him that its okay not to finish.
As someone that believes in football for more than being "just a game", I don't want ANY kid not learning the proper life lessons. That's one of the biggest advantages to a kid playing football. Don't rob them of that to be freakin' PC.
There was no ill will here, even the opposing coach said it. It happens, sometimes.
