Coaches,
With three weeks to go our team has a few injuries that is having an effect on our defense. Our JV has 3 games left and can win a league title. We could use 1-2 of their DB's to help with the depth on Varsity.
What is your philosophy on pulling up sophomores at the end of the season?
Do you think it is better to give juniors reps for next year?
Should seniors still have a chance to play and help the team?

varsity owes the JV nothing...and that is coming from a current jv coach. The existence of the jv is to prepare them to contribute at the varsity level. Not win JV titles. It should be taken as a compliment if the Varsity takes a kid from JV and he contributes.

As a JV coach I am ok with the Varsity pulling a kid up, if he has a chance to play. We have a kid doing great for us right now, the Varsity got an injury, and they said to send him up, good! I am excited for the player, and it give us a chance to hopefully develop another player. JV is meant to prepare the players for varsity, and if they are pulling kids early then we are doing our job. I just hate to see them sit, when they could be gaining valuable game experience, so if they are better then the senior, starter, or will see playing time pull them up.

As long as he plays significantly
It's an issue we have gotten in all year with our JV staff
They see it is taking their player
We see it as making the player and team better
Realistically a kid will improve more on varsity than on JV because in most cases the level of coaching is better and the practice reps are better
You're throwing them to the fire a bit but it really helps with the following year, things always slow down for a kid in his second year on varsity
We have 5 sophomores and a freshman on our varsity team now. If all 6 were on JV they would likely compete for a league title but we feel having them up prepares them for future success better
It also opens up 6 spots on each side of the ball on JV for other kids to get playing time and develop

Is pulling them up crucial to save the Varsity season? If so, you've got to pull them up. But, if you do, you also have to play them. Nothing is more annoying for a coach to have to sacrifice a good player so he can ride the bench. Either he starts or he should stay on JV.
If you're having a crap season, it might make more sense to keep letting that JV group win together in preparation for next year.

Never heard of a jv league title if a kid can play he plays varsity. The jv set up in wa state. Is sort of just the kids that dont ever see the field on friday and is usally coached buy varsity pistion coaches. We have freshmen teams and use to have sophomore teams that played a small scheduel mostly consisting of varsity teams from small classifications but that got scrapped in the late 90's. Just cant see not playing a sophomore or even freshmen if he can help even more so in the lower classifications where 45 kids might be a huge team.

Pretty much agree with everyone here. You want a kid? Great! Take him! But, only if you will use him. I've seen way too many kids taken up as scout team depth. It is almost criminal to me to take away a kid's payday for all of his hard work (game day) because you need him on varsity to get a look at practice.

Cannot he not play in both games? Here our JV games are on Monday so they can also play on Friday.
Also, this situation should be addressed before the season ever starts. It should be your program policy how you handle this situation. If you want, put it in writing. Say it in the parent's meetings. Then there is not a problem when it happens.

Many places do not allow you to do both and many play JV on fridays just before the varsity game
