Could you have a more story book career?
You want to talk about the "chosen coach"...
Can he do any wrong!
Though, he's always done it, with other people's players... which is more impressive than less... he's now at the recruiting mecca!
How long, before Hop a long Cassidy goes to the pros...
I won't be shocked if Old Al, isn't in florida right now... And I'm sure he's not talking retirement...
Hell... he's in Florida... he might just move down the street to Joe Robbie Areana...

If Meyer does go to the NFL in the next year or two, I have a pretty good feeling that there will be a certain overhyped and underperforming QB who might be very interested in playing for him...

this could be the second gators coach to go to the nfl and then get sent back to college.
say he takes the same path as spurrier and fails. where does he endup in college again?
I am think ND as chuck wiess will have had enough and went back to the nfl. might even happen as early as this year.

dunno if the nfl is ready for a coach with that much imagination so true. he might offend the good old boys club. lord knows spurrier did. spurrier's problem was pass protection. he should have taken his oline coach with him. the nfl guys did not understand what he was trying to do.

dunno if the nfl is ready for a coach with that much imagination I don't think Urban Meyer would be ready for the imagination of some of the defensive coaches in the NFL. I get sort of sick of hearing about his genius. I I have seen all the plays he has run before. He just happened to have some players/athletes who could pull all of it off. I don't think anything he has done is revolutionary, it just happens to be on a bigger stage. I think he would really struggle in the NFL. One of the reasons I believe he would struggle is because the NFL is so even-matched when it comes to talent... and especially speed, where Florida had a huge advantage last night. I give him kudos for knowing he had more talent and finding ways for those guys to get the ball in different situations. But, my goodness aren't we anointing him rather soon. I'll give him this, he is the best coach in the nation when given a month to prepare with insane talent. I don't want to knock him, he obviously wins, but we get too excited about these things. I mean they almost lost to South Carolina...and Vanderbilt...and Tennessee...and FSU...and Georgia. Hardly, a season of dominance. We are acting like he single-handedly changed football in one night. BTW, didn't some people think football was changed last week when Boise State won. I don't know, I dislike him because he is so smug (at least he appears that way). So I am probably biased. Last night was torture. Dreaded "THE Ohio State University," and the "Gators." Doesn't get much more annoying than that. Unless the "U" was playing...or fighting someone.

I will say this, I would take Meyer over Weiss any day of the week. You want to talk about over-hyped, Weiss is over hyped. He might be a good offensive minded coach, but he couldn't give a rats behind about defense.
Notre Dame was worse this year than last. At least Meyer came to Florida and started with defense first.
Weiss can go back to the NFL for all I care.

But, Weiss is a good coach. The over hype stuff is ND itself.

I think Weis is a better offensive mind than Urban Meyer. It was almost sad with the speed mismatch with ND and LSU, the announcers mentioned that Weis was doing things like trying to isolate mismatches on a particular cornerback or run this motion and shift so they could get 6 yards on a counter run, whereas LSU just played man across, blitzed, and then went for the jugular for big plays on offense with better athletes. LSU is well coached but it was almost pitiful the disparity in speed in that game. Meyer's nice and all. But Petrino, Boise's staff, Weis, June Jones, Rodriguez, Leach, Tedford, the USC offense (Sarkisian, old BYU QB), and a few others are more bang for my dollar I think. Though looking at my list it is clear I'm not giving the spread option guys enough credit.

One thing to remember about Meyers- he helped make the option attack a popular mainstream part of college football again. I missed watching option football.

And don't forget Meyer seems to be injecting some single wing into his offense as well.

Why would any big time college coach want to go the the NFL? The league is boring and they make plenty of $$ where they are. What is all this Florida had better talent? I believe they were 7.5 point dogs.
He has brought creativity back to football.

Can you imagine Manning, Favre, Garcia... just about any of QB in the NFL keeping on his zone read? The speed option or QB counter could be just as painful. I think Meyer is right at home in college football.

I think Meyer gets too much credit, and he has the personality of a dry bananna peel, which really doesn't appeal to me. I would like to see him go to the NFL, though, because it would be fun to watch him get humbled in a hurry.

Here's my own personal experience with Urban Meyers-
Three summers ago, I went to a Utah clinic down at SLC and Urban Meyers was one of the main speakers. He opened up his speech by talking about a trip he had taken to an NFL team the week prior. He didn't have anything positive to say about professional football players as he had witnessed several of them being lazy wastes of space.
I think Meyers is perfectly comfortable where he's at and I don't think he has any plans to leave.

am i mistaken... or didnt ohio st have just as much time to gameplan as florida? obviouslyt one of the coaches did a better job. and these players were there with ron zook (alot of them) and he was run out of town. for cryin out loud, he ran the spread option with a pocket QB! and won the national title! give credit where its due please.. hats off to urban. ps.... just wait until next year when he actually has a RUNNING QB!!!!

Guys, don't just look at Florida and "what he did with Zook's players." Look at the whole body of work at Bowling Green and Utah. Urban is a heck of a coach.
