Coaches, I have copied and pasted a post from another forum in my hometown. I wanted to think what you thought of it. In our section, I think it's illegal to approach youth players at their games or anywhere else to come to your high school to play football. Maybe it is not as bad as I think it is, but here it goes...
Okay, so I talked with a coach from another school today. I won't mention names, but you know exactly who I'm talking about.
This guy tells me that he makes no apologies for recruiting 6th-8th grade kids...that it's "hard" to be successful at his school, he does 6 days/week through AAU in the Spring, his academics are hard, blah blah blah. So in a nuttshell he goes on to say hell yeah we recruit kids (8th grade and younger). He went to Vacaville to recruit some qbs. Can you believe this guy?
His JV staff are like "don't get mad at me when you see me at these pop warner games recruiting." I can't believe my ears.
Have I missed the bus entirely, or has this gone on for a while without us knowing? I thought the extent of our recruiting has been to build feeders. But no going up to kids directly and saying, hey Johnny, please come to my school.
One of my cousins says the same school did a home visit flashing the college statistics and percentage of the said school's scholarships. These statistics were from their own website lmao. Luckily they said to themselves, thanks, but we live right here in the neighborhood. And this (Burbank) is our neighborhood school. But I am thinking how many unsuspecting parents are falling to the bull$hit.
Do we need to change our attitudes and start making home visits to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders?
