I saw an NFL Films show a while back contrasting the hours spent by modern coaches with those of the '70s. They asked an old Steeler what Chuck Noll would think of the modern hours. He said. "He'd be amazed that somebody could be so inefficient that they couldn't get their work done in a working day".

The most amazing thing is what Jimmy Johnson had to say - that is so foreign to me.

I heard steve spurrier said he was glade his offense did nto work well in the nfl. it really cut into his golfing time and he said those guys were crazy.
bud grant used to say the same thing at chuck knoll. he would always be done by 5:30 so he could make it home to supper at 6 with his kids. his kids all grew up to be good adults.
I heard Glenn Beck talking on his radio show how technology has actually made our lives more complicated when ti was supposed to give us more recreational time.

Airman, great comments.
I too listen to Glenn Beck. You know another thing that cuts into our time, is false expectations society has put on us.
I'll give you a great example of this. Before, when I used to make twice the income I do now I drove a 25,000 dollar car and worked all the time. Now I drive a $2000 car and have summers off. The best option on my old Honda, it's paid for.

Maybe (at least for non-professional coaches) the problem isn't coaching interfering with family, it's the fact we prioritize certain things over family----making more $, personal fun.............really, if you are going to coach and have a family, you need to put those priorities first----forget about the materialistic lies the media tells us-----just be a good father/husband, and a good coach/worker------------------in that order!
