Tuesday 9/3 Offensive Practice (We are complete two platoon. Our Offense and Defense are autonomous). 2:45 School lets out. 3:00 Roll Call/Team Meeting 3:15 Offense in Films/Defense in Weight Room 3:55 Head to Field 4:00 Dynamic Stretch 4:10 Form Running/Agility Work (Bags, Cones, Ladders, etc.) 4:20 Individual Specialty Period 4:30 C/QB/RB work hand-offs, pitch, offensive run plays on air WR - Jugs machine OL - Combo Blocks 4:40 RB - Individual OL - Sled Work WR - Routes on Air/Stalk blocks 4:50 RB/OL/QB - Inside Run and Goal Line Period WR - More Routes on Air/Stalk blocks 5:05 RB/WR/QB - 7-on-7 OL - 5-on-5 Pass Protection 5:20 Team 5:40 Team Specialty (Punt/PAT/Trick Plays) 5:50 Off Field 6:00 Offense in Weight Room/Defense in Films 6:30 End of Practice

We sat down beginning of the season and said, "What are the skills we need to hit every week?"
We then developed a 4 day practice plan that coordinates that.....so that our TE/H-back kids work run block progression with OL, and then get sent to the RB coach for kickout drill.
We laminated the sheets and part of every weekly coaches' meeting is to plan out any tweaks to the base structure of practice.
For example, we decided that every week, our OL needed an individual on:
-run block progression (use chute) -pass block progression (wave drill, tunnel time, 1-on-1's) -screen drill -pull drill (use chute) -double team drill -inside run -BPU
If, for example, we are facing a team that blitzes a ton, we may take our double team drill and work versus a pressure DL/LB stack. We have a call that if the LB walks up into the inside gap of the post man, we will all block down to get a hat on a hat.
So, we may plan on scripting those looks during double team time.

One thing I think is important is transition time. Getting your kids as soon as you can and getting them busy working instead of sitting around. If it's realistic for the kids to be entering the field house by, say, 2:15, then be taking roll in the weight room (or wherever) by 2:20-2:25. Give them a specific time and make sure they're there. And then when you go to the film room to the practice field (or however you do things), make it a quick transition.
There's nothing wrong with making practices as short as they can be by quickly getting to work and being efficient with your time. I have been at programs where we wasted so much time just sitting around doing nothing. Turning a 4 hour practice into a 3-3.5 hour practice because you're organized is a good thing.
