We're trying to put together a playlist of music to play in the stadium prior to the game, but I'm having trouble finding music that meets three criteria: 1) no cuss words, 2) has a halfway moral message, and 3) appeals to a wide range of ages.
The last criteria is just because we have two older gentlemen that we've named the field after that complain anytime they hear anything with a bass line.
What are some good suggestions? What do y'all do for your pre-game music?
Thanks in advance!

In a perfect world, we wouldn't have to worry about that because our band would be there to help get the atmosphere going. But, our band are overachievers and show up 5 minutes before the coin toss.

We created a playlist this year for our middle school team, but I don't think much of it meets your criteria. You might be able to find a few songs from it that work for you though. I really like Shipping up to Boston by Dropkick Murphys, Notre Dame uses it when they kick off.
Some of the songs had cuss words that we've edited out, not sure if that's a problem, but Audacity is a audio you could get your tech guy to use (it's intuitive) if you used some of those songs.
Anyway, here's the list:
Some of the songs at the beginning are just there for atmosphere before we even go out for pregame.
1.) Jolene - Jack White and the White Stripes (cover) 2.) AWOLNation - Sail 3.) White Stripes, Icky Thump 4.) Journey - Wheel in the Sky 5.) Godsmack - I stand alone 6.) Blur - Song 2 7.) AC/DC - Thunderstruck 8.) Queen - We Will Rock You 9.) Fleetwood Mac - Tusk (With the USC Marching Band) 10.) The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army 11.) The Beatles - Helter Skelter 12.) Basement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At 13.) House of Pain - Jump Around 14.) Driving and Crying - Fly me Courageous 15.) Kernkraft - Zombie Nation 16.) Eminem - Not Afraid (heavily edited) 17.) Black Sabbath - Paranoid 18.) Guns and Roses - Welcome to the Jungle (We're the Tigers, it's a tradition here) 19.) Trapt - Headstrong
We actually come out to this set- 20.) AFI - Prelude 21/12 21.) Kid Rock - Bawitdaba (heavily edited) 22.) Dropkick Murphys - Shipping Up to Boston 23.) Drowing Pool - Bodies 24.) Muse - Uprising 25.) Fall Out Boy - Light Em Up 26.) Fort Minor - Remember the Name (clean version) 27.) D12 - American Psycho (chrous only or instrumental) 28.) Queen - Another one Bites the Dust 29.) Imagine Dragons - Radioactive 30.) Survivor - Eye of the Tiger (again, a tradition thing).
Hope that helps you out coach.

Heres some fun ones we got. I understand the dilemma. I'm a younger guy though so I still like some more "player oriented" stuff.
- Anything by Jimi Hendrix is awesome - "Mo Money Mo Problems" I know its rap, but its an upbeat song with clean lyrics. I would look for a clean version though. - Cypress Hill - "Insane in the Membrane". Love it. - Beastie Boys - "Sabotage". Heavy song. Great stuff though. - Marky Mark and the Funbunch - "Good Vibrations". I'm half kidding on this. I love this song. Our HC deleted it from our practice mix cuz it drove him nuts. - Lots of stuff from Led Zeppelin is good - I love blues. And very few people hate it or are offended by it. George Thorogood, Kenney Wayne Shepherd, BB King, Keb Mo are all good calls - Rolling Stones are good for lots of people

I would give a list of your rules and criteria to the captains and have them make the play list.

Give the criteria to the players and let them decide. Just one less thing that you'll have to spend time on, and it will be something that gets the kids going because they like it.

Our guys still love some Phil Collins. Also that 400 violin symphony or 4000 or 500 violin orchestra whatever its called - has no words, and the kids love it.
Also: Teenage Wasteland Anything by Hendrix Thunderstruck 7 Nation Army

I don't know what type of music your kids like, but I find popular songs, typically hip-hop and just download the instrumental version. I go on youtube and search for instrumental versions. Then I cut and paste the link to a MP3 converter site. Once it is turned into an MP3, I save it to my desktop and load it into some type of software program that will produce a CD. Most computers come with such a program. But instrumentals work great for us. Takes all the worry and fuss out of what they are hearing. Quick story...when I was coaching basketball I had a pre-game tape playing. One of the songs was "Renegades of Funk" by Rage Against the Machine. When it was playing a mom came running down out of the stands and went to my A.D. because she thought they were saying the "Renegades of F*ck." Wow. Instrumental is the way to go

If you're going to go instrumental, which with your rules seems like a great direction to go, you should consider a band called "two steps from hell"
Excellent Orchestra music, and both you and your kids will recognize the songs as back tracks to many popular movie trailers and video game trailers.
If you've never heard them before I recommend their song "Heart of Courage" as a first listen.

"Turn Down For What" by DJ Snake featuring Lil Jon. Our kids say it gets them "hype" and the only lyrics are those that you see in the title.

I know I'm late to the party, but these could possibly work for highlight tapes as well as locker room or pregame songs. The better your speakers or headphones, the better they sound. Be sure to click atleast 720 hd in the bottom right corner to increase the clarity.
Lux Aeterna By Clint Mansell
All Orchestra and has alot of build up. Appeals to a very broad audience. I like to turn it all the way up, close my eyes and visualize success. Normally by the 1:00 mark I feel impending doom coming. by the 2:00 mark I realize something's about to get f'ed up around the 2:30-3:10 mark I'm ready to do some justice at the 3:30 mark I'm flipping tables
Slightly joking, but you get the point.
If anyone is into harder songs regarding bass and electronic synth here are some from the emd/house genre. Check them out if you don't mind Zombie Nation or Sandstorm (the 'techno' always played at football games). These wouldn't work for the "Get off my lawn" types.
Tommy Trash - Cascade
Nari & Milani - Atom
This would require a high quality sound system imo. You need the clean quick kicks of the bass to register. I could see a team using this as entrance music if they can pull it off or embrace it.
Knife Party - Rage Valley
My favorite by far. This is very in your face all around. Very hard. You could use this if you want to change the atmosphere, Send a message that you're different, or change the fan experience this is your song. Some people will hate it but they are the ones that you want to push out if you are going for this. They don't make noise on 3rd and 10 anyways.

I don't know if the base at the stadium can handle Atom, but I sure would like to know. Between Tommy Trash, Nari & Milani, and Mad Decent, I'm starting to like where this thread is headed lol.

Definitely post a clip on here if you use Atom; I've always wanted to see a team come out to it.

The "hypest" pregame song of all-time, and one that we've had in our playlist for the past 7 years is
"Throw It Up" (CLEAN VERSION) by Lil' Jon.
You ABSOLUTELY have to find the edited version or it won't be playable, but we've had a copy of it for awhile now so it exists. (Clean version on iTunes)
But it gets the kids going and even (maybe) the coaches. It's almost a tradition now and even some of our opponents expect us to play it.

We were on the road for a playoff game and got nothing but the Halloween theme and Dueling Banjos during pre-game. We were a private city school traveling 2 hours into the mountains, I thought it was awesome.

Region opponent in their stadium, busted out some Culture Club right during warm ups a couple of years ago. Every single coach looked at each and gave the WTF look.
