Been thinking that some of our dudes that can't do a real push up don't get much out of the "2 inch elbow bend" when doing push ups.
Do any of you have your kids that can't do a normal, plank push up do a modified push up instead?

I took some extra belts from the equipment room and made a few TRX knock offs. It lets them get full range of motion on a chest press while only using as much weight as they can handle.

I've got a 300+ lb'r, for instance, who has great feet and is a load but I know he can't touch his chest to the ground and come back up. We've got a couple other players who aren't as big but equally weak in their respective core and chest.

Do you do these for punishment or for strength?
Either way, I think having them do "girl pushups" isn't the answer.....

Strength.
As for calling it a modified pushup, there's just no getting away from it being known as a "girl pushup," is there?
We have a core conditioning period where the plan is to do push up variations at one of the stations.

Incline pushups? So instead of him getting on his knees, how about he keeps his feet on the ground, but does the pushups on a box 2-3 feet tall?

You have HS Varsity players who can't do a pushup?
Your lower level coaches and PE teachers should be severely admonished.
BTW full pushup does not require touching chest to ground. Army test is (or used to be) thumb extended upward from fist on ground - about two inches.

Yep, unfortunately we do have some kids who can't do a push up. Sad, I know.
Thanks for the Army standard.

Yes, there is no way "modified pushup" will not be equated to "girl pushup"......at least if I were their teammate.

IDGAF, if they can't do a real pushup then they need to do modified pushups until they can. If that bothers them, put the f***ing fork down and do something significant about it.
