Are there any big High School programs that pay their opponents to play them? Guaranteed money like college programs offer?

I remember watching Undefeated, a documentary about an inner city school somewhere in the South, that said schools would get paid money to drive across the state and be a doormat for bigger programs. The coach said a lot of poor schools do it as a primary source if funding to have a program at all. Great documentary. It's on Netflix.

At my last school, we were offered a cool $2400 to go get our tails kicked by one of the better teams in KY.
We passed.

We've offered $1500 per trip and feed them. That's in state teams though.

When I first started coaching on the frosh. level I was at a varsity game when we played Ballou HS from DC. I remember after the game the coaches walked out to shake hands and the other coach said "Who has our check" and nothing more. So I assume they got something for coming up (Northwest PA). Also know of a local team that went to Stubenville OH for their homecoming. I remember their HC/AD saying he couldn't turn down what they were offering to play the game. So yes I believe it still happens.

For those big "out of state" matchups (eg: Don Bosco Prep vs. Manatee, Bellevue vs. Euless Trinity, etc.) I'm sure the travelling programs get offered money somehow. Whether part or all of their expenses are covered by the program or 3rd party, or ESPN picks up the tab to broadcast the game.

It's probably a different arrangement when two big names play across state lines as opposed to when a big team brings in a bad team for a gimme win.

I know for a fact some privates have offered good money to city schools to go to their place 2 years in a row and play in Nashville. It is a strictly monetary decision for the schools involved as their gates and fundraising don't cover much.

I know that for some of these teams, it's about the only way they can fill out their schedules.
Where I'm at now, the HC has tried very hard to soften our schedule and get us some winnable games as we rise up from the suck. We'll be feeling it in the pocketbook, though.

We gave a school for troubled youth $500 and a meal to come to our place 3 yrs in a row. One year we even let them wear their new home uniforms that they never got to wear because they don't have a field. I also know that the costs of a lot of big out of state games are covered by sponsors and promoters.

Why did they buy home jerseys if they don't have a field?

We tried arranging that some years ago, but the insurance was a nightmare and we couldn't find a team willing to go home-and-home in consecutive years or cover some of the costs if we travelled for a one-off. The local semi-pro did get a D3 school up for some kind of perverted hybrid rules game.

We are playing in one this year, and I'm pretty sure the network is helping with our travel expense.

Are there any big High School programs that pay their opponents to play them? Guaranteed money like college programs offer? West Monroe High School has offered schools $25,000+ before to play playoff games at WM as opposed to having WM travel to them.

The big OOS games are put together by a marketing group called Paragon and ESPN just shows the games. The marketing groups pays both parties to play and covers the traveling expenses for the away team. The home team sells tickets but the money goes to the marketing group. Home team gets to keep concessions.
However there are 'pay to play' games like you mentioned. A buddy of mine set up one during the last scheduling rotation to play on the road both years. He got enough to to cover expenses and buy a set of alternate uniforms for his team. They won both games to boot.

Will never pay for it, but my school will travel and play teams in Virginia regularly. Some would even consider us rivals.
