I started a thread earlier about finding a way to peak at the right time... I've come down to the conclusion that we probably did too much "live" hitting for too long... Which leads to my next question.
What are the differences between your practices as the season progresses towards playoffs? Outside of 2-a-days that is. Some people shorten practices, some go from full-gear to half-pads, some will cut INDY time as the hit playoffs and spend more time on team, etc.

Don't know if it's because we're progressing towards playoffs or simply dealing with ever increasing poor weather and lack of light, but we basically shave proportional amounts off of all practice periods.

As the season progresses we shorten practice a bit each week. We also add in our "WAR" where depending on the day the first team offense or defense has to score or get a stop every play. Offense starts at the 5 and get 5 plays. If they score they move back to the 10. On defense, they offense starts on the 10 and gets 4 plays to score.
Our kids love this as it breaks up inside run and really gets them pumped up when we go to team time to get the other team back.
This methods works even better if you are able to platoon your teams. Unfortunately we can't.
