Hey guys, I am currently finishing up pre-season plans for my team. we will be an 8th grade squad and I am our DC. We will be playing a multiple front defense (4-4 with some 2 - 4 , 3-4 , and a 6-2/Elephant front for short yardage and goal line situations). We will be running cover 0, 1 (our base), and cover 5, we may run quarters as well. our first game is against a spread gun team that varies their attack based on their QB strength. If he is a pocket pass they run a lot of IZ, base, and power and have a strong vertical pass game. If he is more of a scrambler, they will run some option and they will run the heck out of zone read with a more short pass game.
We ran the 4-4 2 years ago and ran the 3-4 last year (we run what the local HS runs hence the switching back and forth) and this year we chose to use both fronts to give our D more varied looks to mess with offenses. I was wondering if I should focus our first few weeks on how our coverage 1 and 5 will look and run fits will work out of our fronts and introduce C1 as we go along as it will play a more major role as the season goes on as we play vs the veer, Flexbone and wing-T the majority of the rest of the season? Anyone willing to share an example install calendar would be greatly appreciated!!

honestly,its all a guide line.
i am a big tracker, so i love lists and calendars and i geek out over making effective practice plans...but i had an interesting experience 2 years ago that changed my philosophy.
as usual, i had my first 4 weeks planned out. what i was going to install down to the letter.
Front - Coverage - Stunts
week 1 went great, then the start of week 2...we were not even CLOSE to being ready for the week 2 installation plan...
so i scrapped the install plan and have a goal sheet:
Before first game i want X,X,X perfect Before first game i want Y,Y,Y good enough to use Before first game i want Z,Z,Z introduced but not useable
and so on
