Coaches,
Each Friday I want to take a break from football and do a 15-20 min competition. Any ideas?

We have used Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, and Medley Relays for that purpose. For Ultimate Frisbee, we added a rule so that if you intercept a pass you can return it like tag football. For soccer, we do it in five minute increments. Every five minutes we switch which teams are on the field. If someone scores a goal, it changes immediately. At my old school, Ultimate Frisbee was the favorite. At my current school, soccer is the top one.

Also a simple game of dodgeball works great. Big skill vs skill, juniors vs seniors etc.

Touchdown Corner - Two groups, one at the 25 on the hash and one at the 30 on the numbers. Group on the numbers is O, other one is D. Race to the endzone, two hand touch, O runner gets 1 juke move. After a few minutes, players call out other players who can choose to decline, but usually don't. Good conditioning, practical, competitive.
Crab Basketball - Two groups in a small-ish space with a basketball and two trash cans for hoops. No dribbling, have to balance the ball on their stomachs while crabwalking around and passing. Stupidly entertaining to watch, btw.
Bring 'Em Back Alive - I'll post a video of this later. Basically, two teams try to drag their opponents across a line until one team is eliminated. Sort of a human tug'o'ward blended with wrestling.
Sideline Basketball - I need a video of this, but I'll try to explain. Two teams, regular basketball court, teams wait on the sides. Rotation in groups of 5 goes from D to O to sideline, so when a team transitions to O, as soon as they cross half court a new 5 run on to play D and wait until the other team recovers the ball. Once the other team recovers the ball, the O goes off to the sidelines and waits until they're rotated on again. Players can pass the ball to players on their teams sideline. There's basically no rules beyond the rotation procedure. Not uncommon to have games with final scores like 4-2. This gets violent quickly, but you also learn about your players, too. I saw a 125 lb sophomore RB dishing and weaving between senior players, avoiding contact, and playing the game with a real natural flow/understanding. Two years later he's the best DB in the county and has a VERY keen knack for being where he's needed. I don't think Sideline Basketball developed that, but it showed me early on that he was a bit of a natural at understanding how sports 'work'.

In the summer, we try to end every field session with a competition, taking somewhere from five to ten minutes.
Some nights they are football in nature (like who can get the best roll on a rugby kick - great to see some of the bigger dudes attempting this)and other nights it might be a water balloon or egg toss. I'm sure we could see who could throw the most pennies into a coffee can and the kids would love it.
These are some of the best team bonding activities we do.
