First year coach here just officially got started, curious what are some methods you guys utilize to increase participation throughout the summer? (speed&strength camp)
My ideas -incorporating competition days ( sure kids need to work hard, but this way they also see the fun)
- biweekly/ monthly have fun/team night where kids can come in on Friday nights etc, bring video games, watch movies, play a little football, And create a fun atmosphere.
- creating some type of points/ rewards system where kids are held accountable for coming in.

If you can somehow integrate the following into your workouts: 1) women 2) water
Those two things work off of each other and are sure to get more participation from your 14-18 yr old young men during these hot a$$, fun summer evenings.

UIL?
We use a points system and we have probably over 80% of our kids at every lifting session we do.

Twice when taking over programs we have done visits to all possible football candidates and their families. Always was a very positive thing, the parents are more apt to encourage the boy to participate after they meet you. You can have a "meet the coach" night but only the most motivated attend that and it sounds like you want to get some new boys out. When we did this we would drop off a t-shirt and our summer workout schedule and than simply introduce ourselves. It is quite a bit of work to get it organized but worth it in the connections you make.

One thing I did my 1st year taking over is requested the incoming freshman phone numbers from the middle school and then I called every incoming fresh male and notified them about FB and our interest in having as many on the team as possible.
This usually improved our numbers on the frosh. level.
As for the upper levels, in my experience if they're not already committed to the summer their's usually a reason why and can be tough to change their minds w/ anything other than success. Again, in my experience anyway.

For the summer, this is the first year that I have tried an incentive program. Three weeks into the summer, we have around 85% attendance on a daily basis. We will have some freshmen with fully stickered helmets and some varsity players that look like bums with no stickers, but you get what you earn.
First incentive, are our helmet stickers. Every student in the program can earn full helmet stickers if they have good summer attendance. 70% attendance gets your helmet stripe 80% gets your S-Paw Logo (see my avatar) on the left side of your helmet 90%+ gets your number on the right side of your helmet.
Second incentive program also goes off of percentages. It comes in 4 tiers. 70% attendance gets a Nike Black Chinstrap guard 80% attendance gets a Nike Black mouthpiece 90% attendance gets Nike Blue and White Vapor Socks 95%+ attendance gets a Nike Blue Compression Shirt with our S-Paw Logo screened on the chest. Estimated cost per student that receives all 4 items, $50
This is my 2nd season as this school as a head coach. 2 seasons ago they finished the season with ~15 kids in the entire program. Last year, my 1st year, we finished with 55 kids (in a school of 350) and won our first varsity game in 4 seasons. My freshman team won conference at 6-3 and my JV team did as well at 8-0.

Find a couple of hot managers and you're in business. Don't get a hot trainer though. We have one of those, and as a result, we have numerous injuries.
