Who would you say are the best pure coaches (that you have seen and are still active today) at the high school, college and professional levels? One or two from each level is what I'm looking for. And when I say pure coaches, I mean hands-on X's and O's gameplanning, teaching of fundamentals, getting the most out of players, etc.

Bob Ladouceur - De La Salle High School (California) I will second Coach Lad. I have never seen a coach get so much out of his kids year in and year out. Every year they come down to SoCal and beat the heck out of teams that are more physically gifted.

JT- Curtis.. John Curtis Christian School. Played against his teams twice (actually made them run counter-option a few times...we considered that a moral victory) and had pass skell/lineman practice with them and another school several times during the summers. JT, who could probably have won state both years without attempting a pass all season, was coaching the passing game with much more precision, clarity, and attention to detail than the other teams who were running "pro style" or "spread" offenses.
Just flat gets after it. Yes, there are some shady dealings helping the program get to 500 wins, but by no means should that take away from his reputation as a coach.
