Okay I have three D1 kids right now. One of them has received a ton of offers. The other two have offers but very few.
A school was in two weeks ago and told me that they were going to offer one of the of the kids who have less offers within two weeks. I didn't tell the kid because I didn't want to get his hopes up. Right now I am kind of glad I didn't tell him because Wednesday will be two weeks from the day that the coach told me that and they have yet to make the offer.
My question is what if a coach came in and told you for sure that he was going to offer a kid and they didn't make the offer? They have offered and love our other kid who has a ton of offers.

I plan to call them, but what do I say? "Hey you told me you were going to offer and you didn't... ?"

Also, just keep in mind... that while offers can come now, NOTHING is official until the the first wednesday in Feb. Colleges over offer all the time, and sometimes it bites them in the butt.

I am with coach5085. I go through this same issue frequently. I do not hestitate to tell the kid "hey, they really like you and said they are going to offer, but......until they actually do then nothing is official. Until you hear it out of his mouth directly, all of the (going to's) mean nothing. I want them to know that the school likes them and that they are on the short list, but constantly remind them that it means nothing until they ACTUALLY offer.

Can you trust a school that says definitively they are going to offer and don't though? This just rubs me the wrong way. If you are just interested say you are just interested...don't lie.

I would call and ask them like others have told you...you are taking this process personally and I feel that it is a mistake. as long a s a guy is honest, hey either they offer or don't offer..did you watch the penn state recruiting video on football scoop yesterday?..Coach O'bien goes on to basically say...some kids are a fit for the program and some aren't..and some maybe...

Also be aware that the we are going to offer talk might be coming out of the assistant coaches mouth because he wants to offer. Maybe the head coach evaulated and wanted to wait or found something he didn't like. I would imagine every offer that goes out needs a stamp of approval from the HC.

The assistant recruited a kid hard for months and kept saying an offer is going to come. It never did. The assistant coach said "If it was up to me, I'd take you over so and so, but its not, and the HC liked so and so better. Sorry."

A lot of 'em blow smoke. Call and ask them where your kid stands with them. Time will tell whether they are honest with you or not. I had one lead one of my kids on a few years back, blamed it on another coach on their staff. I gave him a second chance. He led on another one and then nothing. Not honest. When he came after the third, he never stood a chance. I just said to the parent "you can't trust that guy". Of course, then the recruiter wanted to get mad because the kid dropped them like a hot rock...and the guy must have pulled the same stuff on others and ended up losing kids, since he's no longer employed there.
