The other day I was dusting off the old video cabinet and I noticed that not one of the 100+ video(s) was really a complete progression and installation video. So I am wondering if any of you have ever seen a video or series of videos that show the complete installation of any scheme (offense or defense) where they break it down all the way to the exact drills they use and ONLY the stuff that is needed to be covered?? A real OFFENSE or DEFENSE in a BOX?
This is it!! kind of stuff?
I am going to bet nobody can name any.

Good point JC. In the past we have tried to create something like you are suggesting. It hasn't come about yet, but we are trying. I'd love to see true installation of some of the great stuff that people are doing.

Yes, good problem to solve, and several coaches recently have put out stuff like that for their Systems, etc.
That is why AFM filmed our 5 - part Instructional DVD series that way, and on April 15th our A-11 Installation Manual will be released nationwide, a manual to install the offensive foundation and 50 plays.
I believe more and more coaches will do this type of thing with their "systems" because the advent of new technology makes it easier to do and put forth crisp detail.
I have purchased several DVD's of other coaches this off-season and more and more of those books and DVD's are looking that way.

I have a private clinic on the byu offense from norm chow. it goes over the passes and some on offensive organization, some dirlls but not a lot.
the best guy for this is bill williams. you go to one of his private clinics you get it all. if you want to run the zone offense, you go to bill. he breaks is all down from stance to blocking the inside out side zone.
I personally do not like the AFM videos. I think they are highly over priced for the content you get. 30 min. for 40 bucks is a joke in my opinion. to be fair coaches choice seems to be giving less time for the dollar as well.
I stick with bill williams videos. most are 90 minutes long and are detailed.

I also learned a whole bunch of new terms which must be strickly related to southern coaches. did not know a juke jam was another term for press coverage.

There is extremely few DVDs that go through the install process. It is a shame also. I think it depends on the coach soem too. Coverdale's stuff goes into so much detail and the building process that it is step by step. I only have the SZF stuff from AMF and there are some things I do like and some I do not. Honestly it had more information thne a Coaches Choice DVD I got about the jet offense. It was lacking the drills but I did not feel like I waisted my money. The Mumme Air Raid stuff and honestly most of the stuff from Championship Porducts I have not been overly impressed with.
I think the inservice/private clinic/home made stuff is the best. I wish I had more of it and more people would do it. It does not have to be fancy but there are a ton of guys I would love to see dvds from that are on here. How they put in their offense, teach it and the such.

There are some valid points listed about problems with some DVD's or manuals/books, etc.
Our staff took 2 years to develop our upcoming Manual to be released and the entire thought process behind putting it together was from a football coaches point of view - as if a Coach was sitting there with us, reading it, asking questions, and then teaching it to his staff and players.
I hate wordy, tangent laden material that puts me to sleep. I want to be excited to learn about the subject.
As a student of the game I want a few things when I watch a coaching video or read his manual/book:
1. Keep it simple and easy to understand
2. Make it a quick read if it's a book or easy to follow if it's DVD
3. Teach me at least ONE thing worthy I did not know, or teach me a better way to do something
4. Put things into a cohesive and chronological fashion
5. Don't give me Filler! I want concise info that I can use as a solid launching pad for my own creativity too
6. If it is a manual - I want room to write my own Immediate thoughts or play ideas down next to the Play I am studying.
7. If it's video - I want lots of game tape
The READER and/or Viewer is your Boss if you decide to put your DVD's or Manual out there on the open market for your peers.
If you take the time to do it right - it pays huge dividends for you, your staff and the coaches who learn from your teaching.
We have included all of those items I listed above because being First Rate and pleasing your customers, is the only thing that matters when you put your name on something.
Sincerely,
KB

Coach Hugh Wyatt's DYNAMICS OF THE DOUBLE WING series is a great step-by-step progression and installation system. It includes teaching points, helpful drills, trouble-shooting, etc. It is without a doubt the best instructional series I have ever seen.

Tony Franklin's material is very good and reliable, but a bit spendy.

As I started reading this post, that s the first name that popped into my head. Was able to run the offense flawlessly from just watching his videos

My stuff has gotten some pretty good reviews. To put the Single Wing Offense in for youth football it's one product that comes on 2 DVDs, about 160 minutes long. It's all step by step, white board, coaching points, practice footage/installation, then game footage. Each play is like that and includes the base blocking rules and progressions as well.

As far as youth material goes, Dave Cisar's stuff is top notch. And, best of all, it is field proven. But, he goes into more than just the SW offense. He covers the other aspects of coaching a youth program. I also like Steve Calande's 46 Gambler material. It is also field proven.

I loved Mouse Davis's Run and Shoot series. After watching those 4 videos I was ready to run it! But I never did...
Speckman had a great series on the Fly that allowed use it. His videos on the Run / Play pass/drills were very well done.
I thought the McNally / Munoz series on O.Line was awesome

The Tony Demeo stuff and the Muskegon Running DVD may be the best DVD ever, but from top to bottom they all leave room for improvement.

Yes! Get the Tom Herman summer camp videos. Chalkboard then practice drills for each position group for each play. If you are a wing-t coach you should be taking your team to his camp or at least getting the camp videos!

One possible reason is that the "canned" systems and football consultants are relatevely new on the highschool landscape. Previously, you would start with the system being run at whatever school your first gig was...talk with coaches/drink with coaches...hit the clinics...talk/drink with more coaches...hit more clinics, hit a college in the offseason... talk/drink with more coaches...all the while tinkering and toying with the system you were grounded in.
The concept of "Here is my system, here is how we install it, here are the drills we use to develop it, here are the adjustments we make within it, here is how we mix the gatorade for water breaks, this is how we assign lockers and locker duty..." is still new. Look at the coaches choice catalogs...More and More high school coaches making videos on "their" thing...and very few college coaches releasing new stuff.

The Tony Demeo stuff and the Muskegon Running DVD may be the best DVD ever, but from top to bottom they all leave room for improvement. Beat me to it coach those are what I was going to say. The Muskegon DVD is the best I have seen HANDS DOWN allmost like a virtual playbook with drills to run each play with video showing it. The only thing it dosent show is how they call the plays. If you want to know that I can help you out.
