I'm at a first year start up program. We don't have many kids (less that 25). HOWEVER, We've had several very, very good athletes leave their old schools and come to us, which has upset many in the community but especially their old school. Their old schools are filing grievances with our state association alleging recruiting, etc. It seems as if they are out to hurt the kids. If a kid transfers, shouldn't that be the end of it?

Depends on if it's a legal transfer or not.

How many is several? We had one new team who had 12 kids transfer in one year. Pretty sketchy. Why are they transferring. If they are going for just football then recruiting becomes a very possible allegation. Would you be happy if your kids transferred to another school !??!?!

100% legal transfers. We didn't know who these kids were before they were enrolled. A total of 4 new kids. We had a very good kid leave 1 day before fall camp. He's in a better situation, so I'm happy for him. Of course, We'd like to have him, but we're not going to hold it against him. Several of these kids told me that they got into disagreements with their former coaches and wanted a change. Some of their friends are on our team, so they came over.

If a kid transfers, shouldn't that be the end of it? In a perfect world- maybe. But really, is it such a bad thing to have allegations? Since you did nothing wrong, you will be vindicated and then that will be the end of it. if not, rumors will continue to fly. I've been on both sides of the issue- we have a new player... who is a stud (will be our best DL- and we had 1 returning All-conf. player). Someone may say something- I am expecting it, and do not worry at all. At my last school, before I took the job, 8 starters left. 7 went to one school- and I got to know that coach and he is still a friend today- though there were constant rumors of recruiting. It (recruiting) never happened (from the coach or staff... kids might be a different story, but nothing illegal about that), and I did what i could to dispel that kind of talk. Another school there- 2-8, hired a big name, ex-pro coach... winds up with 26 new transfers (including one of the key players in last year's Rose Bowl)... and wins the state championship. That situation was a bit suspect, but I wasn't "in the loop" enough to know what really happened, so I said nothing. I have turned in a program for recruiting- a player of mine told me an opposing coach (for basketball, no less) told him to come to school there. Since that is illegal (and since that coach was a real a$$), I filed with the state. I understand your concerns, we have been accused of it too (at a school of 71 kids... rumor is we get any parents of studs a job and practice during the summer in an air conditioned barn with astro-turf...). Since we have never done anything wrong, I don't mind the accusations... state associations call the shots and they (the one's I have dealt with) generally have the best interests of kids as their guiding philosophy. If nothing else, look at this as an opportunity to silence the seemingly obligatory rumors.

As the senator says. if everything's legal don't worry. Cooperate in every way so that you can get it out of the way as soon as possible. It would suck-diddly-uck to have the kids miss time waiting for an investigation if they're eligible. Transfers are very common here. In fact two likely starters this year for us are transfers and a third transferred in last year.

We also have alot of transfers. Once in a while someone will raise eyebrows, but if your clean there's nothing they can do. If a kid moves into your district he has every right to play ball.

this kind of stuff happens all the time in milwuakee. kids leave schools to go be with their friends and then a coach gets accused of recruiting. this is what happens with open enrollment.
