Weekly Community Service...
I thought I would share this idea with my colleagues...
This year, we are going to do weekly community service. Every Saturday, when the players come in for film and lifting, we are going to have everyone bring in a loaf of bread, and a jar of peanut butter and jelly. We are going to make sandwiches--about 500 each week, if each person makes about 10-20. We are going to then deliver the sandwiches to a local food pantry that we have in town. By the end of the year, we hope to have donated 5,000 sandwiches to our community.
I wanted to challenge other coaches and programs to do the same!

That is a great idea! I will actually bring something up to my HC in our next meeting. I think we should always give back to our community. Great work coach.

I would be intrigued to know how long you continue to do this.
mitts- I'm going to guess this idea isn't going to endear yourself any further to the staff.

Good idea coach.
We have our senior players serve a meal at a local church for people of need. Our juniors clean the garden after the first frost at the local food shelf, and our sophs next year are going to help sort Christmas presents for Toys for Tots.

More off season stuff...
Chopping wood for local communities / donating it to families that need it in the winter..
in our area we actually have a rather large rate of homeless people.. Our team pastor (Character Coach) has us lined up to serve at local soup kitchens on friday nights and help at local shelters.

We have our kids help out with a number of places throughout the year. Set up and tear down for Remembrance Day service, packing and delivering food hampers, help with running a cancer fundraiser, setting up and tear down for various community events, etc. The kids really enjoy helping and I don't need to preach to you guys the benefits to those in need in our community.

so basically it is going to cost the parents $10 a week for kids to watch films?
Do something like Rake leaves or pick up trash. Giving sandwiches to a food bank is not a community service it is an entitlement program.
