I'm thinking about giving reward stickers on Monday based on Friday nights performances. Any info. on what stickers you give and the categories you use would be appreciated.

qpower-- go to google, type in "Coach Huey helmet stickers reward stickers"-- will pull up several threads where this has been discussed in pretty good depth.

Yes there are other good threads to google. We only give rewards when we win.

We only give them out when we win. Everyone 9-12 get them when we win. In the preseason we do give them out for wt room clubs, honor roll, and being a Multisport athlete.

Ours are all team awards. 275 yds rushing, 34 points, under 14 on D, 125 yards rushing. Things like that. I think we can earn 17-18 on a perfect night. Our kids love it, you have to play significant # of plays to get them.

They are team goals for each game, so yes blowout, close game whatever. The kids can't wait to get them on Thursday. We've been really good so it's worked out, could see it being demoralizing if it highlighted not doing well instead of being successful.

We were 1-9 and had kids with 30 helmet stickers. So your like or dislike of helmet stickers depends on how good you are?

How do Scout Team players earn "reward stickers?"
And if they don't can you keep a straight face when you tell them Monday-Thursday to "Give us a good look!" because of how important they are?
Our greatest reward is to be found in Team victory. When we win there's enough glory to go around for everyone. Helmet stickers become just another way to separate your best players or at least starters, who will naturally get more, from the rest of the squad.
A secondary reason for not giving them is I already have enough to do without taking time on the weekend to figure out who earned what and after a practice or meeting to give them out.

We don't have a set # of plays you have to play. If we're blowing someone out and the scout team plays the 4thkids qtr they get them the same as the starters.

How do Scout Team players earn "reward stickers?" We no longer give out helmet stickers, but when we did, we gave every player 2 when they earned one. One would go on their own helmet, and one had to be given to a teammate who helped them reach whatever accomplishment they had. So for example, if we had a 100 yard rusher, we would give the back 2 and each of the offensive linemen 2. The back would usually give his second one to the offensive linemen. The offensive lineman would usually give it to whoever they lined up across from on the scout team that week, or somebody who was in their lifting group.

It takes me 5 minutes to chart who gets what.

I agree, we have a board that shows the goals. Doesn't take long to figure out if we had 300 yards rushing, 34 points or whatever. You know who starts or has significant playing time on each side of the ball. The only individual sticker we give is the hitman (skull & crossbones). We also have a championship titles belt that you get to wear that week if you get hitman. We keep score all year, whoever wins overall gets their name engraved on the back for that year. Pretty cool and all the kids want that belt.

how they make it look like some players are better than others. Some players are better than others. Look, you don't like them, that's cool. I just know my kids like them and they use them as a motivation each week. If it works, I don't care what it looks like. I only hand them out for team things- all 11 on offense when we score a TD get a sticker. All 11 on defense when we get a INT get a sticker. Do we look like Ohio State by Week 9? Sure. But like I said, the kids like them and it motivates them. That's all I need to keep buying them.

That allows every player to get a sticker and feel they contributed to something that week. My only question is does the entire offensive side get them or just the 11 that were on the field? I would think that could get interesting. Its also something that I am sure we would hear about from parents because they believe every kid deserves one. We personally dont use them. HC hates them for whatever reason. I do like your angle though.

I do like your angle though. Only the 11 that were out there for that touchdown get a sticker, or INT or whatever get one. I rarely hear from parents about anything. I don't know why, but honestly, I think I scare most of them. In 3 years as a HC I've only had one phone call or email about someone's son not getting enough PT or "touches". I think it's partly because I'm pretty upfront, and follow it up, with the fact that I don't care who your kid is. If they do what we ask them to do and they're the most talented at that position, they'll play. And if you play and play well, you get the rewards for that. Like more touches or more stickers.

Here are our reward criteria: Off-season: One sticker per other sport played. Two stickers for each quarter on the "A" honor roll. One sticker for each quarter on the "B" honor roll. One bonus sticker if they make National Honor Society Weight Room Clubs: Five stickers for the top club. One sticker for the bottom club. At this point we have 9th graders with more stickers than returning seniors and it should embarrass the hell out of them.
Once the season begins they only get stickers when we win. Everyone 9-12 gets a "Win" sticker. Coaches select O/D/special teams/and scout team players of the week....only in a win. Except Scout Team. We reward that kid every week. (They also get t-shirts )
When we win we reward yards for the team touchdowns, etc.I make a big deal of getting a ton of stickers on the helmets of the OL. We reward forced fumbles, interceptions and fumble recoveries. We reward tackles after 10 total stops with one sticker every 10 stops.
Sounds like a lot of work. It really isn't that much on a Monday after we come in from practice. The kids like it. They want to keep it. When the season is done we give them a poster to put the stickers on and they keep them.
