When is the best time to have a team camp for your kids? Beginning of the summer or the end prior to season to have one as last thing you do prior to season starting?

we do ours in the middle of July
I like it because it is unique... most team camps in NorCal are right when school gets out for most ... mid to late June
I like having it a little bit later because i feel less rushed to install in spring ball and summer because we have more time and more practices before camp... we can focus more on fundamentals
I remember being in HS... we would rush to put a bunch of plays in during spring ball... have 1 padded practice, and it was off to team camp the first weekend school was out...
I like not being rushed to install... I like going in to camp having an idea what we run well, what we need to work on, and then camp is our litmus test for where we are mid summer
We get 3-4 weeks of practice... camp to see where we are... another 3-4 weeks of practice to fix things, make changes, refine, whatever you want to call it... and then we are ready for doubles and then school is starting
I think it helps break up our summer routine better because most of the 7 on 7 tourneys seem to be during June
and then again at the very end of July... I like having competitive things spread out through the summer

We've had team camp at various times, this year we're going to try having it as the last thing we do over the summer. I like the idea.

Ours is as close to the start of practice as we can have it for the carryover, which means last week in July.
Our state has a Dead Period from August 1 until start of practice (August 12 this year) where you can lift, run, etc. but do nothing with footballs or equipment.
There are some coaches that have their camp right after school gets out, and there are even some that do two camps - one after school, other end of July.

We do both. Do one right after school that lasts 2 days that focuses on putting in stuff for the summer work. We then do another at the end of July that is kind of basically practice. Make sure we have everything in and get ready for two a days.

We have done both and prefer early. It gets them motivated for summer workouts better IMO. At the end is tough because we have pads in camp and the next week we can't wear them until the 6th day.

I can tell from the responses that the word "camp" means different things to different people ... and I am assuming it is regional
when I am talking about camp I don't mean an in house "training camp"
there's no need...we have spring ball and can have unlimited practice the entire summer (full gear if we want)
we get so much practice time that I really don't think doubles is necessary
Around here, camp usually refers to a multi school team camp hosted at a local Hs or college
multiple teams come together ... some have position coaching from college guys, most include 7 on 7 and 1 on 1 drills and some sort of 11 on 11 team scrimmages
This type of camp is great for us, we host a huge one here, its our biggest fundraiser, we are beginning to become KNOWN for our camp... and with 8 schools you get to see 8 different offenses and defenses

Illinois is different. No spring ball and only 25 contact days over summer... So our camps are usually in-house and are like a training camp. Many schools in Illinois will do team caps at a local college, etc and include those days in their 25 contact days. 7 on 7s are also part of the contact days.
We do about 3 or 4 7 on 7s throughout the summer (a couple big/multi team ones and we host one with just s and another school)
as far as camps, we do 12 days of camp (2 three day sessions in June and 2 three day sessions in July). Tuesday, Wednesday Thursdays. Kids like the format, keeps things fresh in their mind as doubles approach in August

We hold our camp 2 weeks before the start of practice, close enough to condition, get timing down, and the such, but it gives us a week of time to rest and heal any tweaks and ready for camp.

Some suggestions:
find out when aau basketball finishes find out if your varsity basketball coach has camps that youll lose players to find out if your varsity basketball coach is running summer league
while you may or may not have many basketball players, we always do so we do try to take a look at the big picture.
Ultimately, football season officially starts mid august so thats when we can make things mandatory.

I was taking it as a team camp we go away to, not in-house. We do our in-house "mini camp" the week after school is out. We will then go to team camp at the end of the summer, right before we go into a "dead period" and a little over a week before practice starts. That gives us something to kick off the summer and something to finish with some 7on7s in between.
