Our highschool program is thinking about doing one. Here is what we had in mind (in no particular order): Ages 8-13 3 days Open to all feeder programs Full contact Running it early to late June Having a coaching clinic for youth coaches
Many of you may have participated in some or even ran some camps of your own. Any advice or things to look out for would be appreciated.

Here are my questions...
How do you get the kids ready to be in full pads? We spend the first 2 weeks of august getting ready to be in full pads?
How hot is it there in June, here it would be well over 100 degrees?
What do you gain by going full pads in the middle of the summer over a regular week long non-padded camp?

Thanks for the questions...good to think this thing out for sure. Here are my thoughts...
1. Same question can be said for high school kids who go to early summer padded camps. You really cannot kids to be ready like you would for summer camp. I know high school kids and younger kids are not the same...good question.
2. It is 100+. I am in Sacramento, California.
3. For the kids, they get to compete with other kids outside of their programs. There are different organizations here, and many will never compete during the season. There are little coaching clinics for youth coaches. We can get together and talk about what we do to build our repertoires. In the end, we hope to teach kids good fundamentals and build relationships with youth coaches and kids in our community. It has been tough getting buy in from youth programs in our attendance area...maybe we can build bridges here. All that in 3 days lol.
Again, I appreciate the questions. Where I am at, for the most part, the haves go to padded camps, while the have-nots only show up in august. Plenty arguments against these camps, but I think that debate could last for many, many pages and posts:)
