Coaches,
I'm trying to gain ideas of what your week look likes in regards to film and pre-routine for fridays.
Film: We try to watch film during lunch but only watch minimal film of opponents (15-20 mins) during the week. We do watch our game 2 hours on Saturdays.
What do you guys do to watch opponents?
Friday: Bell rings at 3 and kids have to be in locker room at 4pm. We do quick walk thru and then get ready.
I want kids to get mentally ready when bell rings. We do awards on Thursday and was thinking of changing this to friday.
What do your fridays look like?
Thanks in advance.

Saturday we run concessions for mighty mite games. Coaches meet and breakdown one opponent film together. Saturday from 3 to whenever is family. Sunday OC meet and DC meet with me. Typically dobringing this in evening for oneyou or two hours. Discuss game plan.
Friday eventually rolls around and we have a team meal directly after school. Following meal players go to stadium. We will watch a movie. Play music. Xbox. Until 5. From 5 on we get dressed and meet with position coaches about game plan. We head to practice field at 6.walk up to game field at 6:45 behind fire trucks. We go on field run one play kick one extra point. Break down then do starters. Then anthem. Then ball game.

We meet on Saturday mornings as a staff (no kids). We watch our film and breakdown 2 opponent films. Kids watch video of our game immediately after school Monday. They watch our opponents video on Tuesday and Thursday during wt. training class. Friday kids get out, we go to pre game meal, usually at a local church. We come back, stretch, hand out unis and relax till first group goes out at 6:10

Saturday Kids in watch/breakdown last game film/grade and review. Coaches break down opponent.
Sunday OC/DC come in meet w/HC, discuss game plan and week leading up to game day as well as injuries and any other issues.
Monday Coaches meet before practice, while JV coaches take players through warm-ups and special teams practice to discuss and implement game plan Practice is mostly light conditioning with any install or game plan stuff, may do some light individual or group work. Punt and Kickoff teams for special teams.
Tuesday Team run day offense and defense. Offense goes through run game that will be implemented that week, defense defends opponent's top run plays out of their top formations. We can adjust if our opponent doesn't run much. Kickoff and Kick Return are special teams.
Wednesday Team pass day offense and defense. Basically the same as Tuesday, we can adjust if our opponent doesn't pass much. Punt and Punt return are special teams (can adjust with PAT/FG if need be).
Thursday Polish things up. All walk-through and special teams. Any final tweaks to game plan.
Friday Players report at assigned time based on home or away game. Pre-game meal served upon arrival. Opponent film is played in locker room as players get dressed.
Saturday it starts all over again...

In Iowa, we play all of our games Friday nights and the players have the weekend off. Coaches have Saturday off, although through Hudl we're expected to have watched film and bring at least initial ideas to our Sunday meeting. We meet Sundays at 9 a.m. and are done between 11 and noon.
Monday: JV game/Varsity practice. I'm with the JV on Mondays, so I don't know exactly what the varsity does on these days, but it is a full-padded practice with the emphasis being on reviewing the other teams top offensive plays and base defensive looks.
Tuesday/Wednesday: Format is the same for both days. It's a two hour practice with the first half being an offensive emphasis, second half being defensive emphasis. One day we'll rep the punt game at the midpoint and the next day, kickoff game at the midpoint.
Thursday: 60-90 minute walkthrough. This generally got shorter as the season went on and players got the routine. Our JV will have a normal practice, or as normal as possible without pads. The varsity reviews all special teams, the defense will review alignment and assingment then walk through the other team's base plays, then the offense will review at a two minute pace.
Friday: Freshmen play at 5, varsity at 7:30. If at home, the varsity and JV players are free to leave after school, but must be back by the start of the freshmen game. Then, they can either watch the freshmen play or go to the weightroom and listen to music/get mentally prepared. If on the road, our trips are far enough to where they don't have time to go home after school. We timed up the bus trips to where we got to the opposing site generally just after the freshmen game had started.

Saturday 8am- I trade film 9-Noon- Staff meets and breaks down opponents and our game. I don't bring kids in on Saturday. Long explanation, but I think it's a waste of time. I think we get better returns from our kids when we don't meet with them.
Sunday Nothing for kids, me or my staff.
Monday Varsity- 45 min review of opponents, usually in shorts and Tshirts. Watch film for 45 mins JV- Game
Tuesday Offensive day 2 hour practice tops
Wed Defensive day 2 hour practice tops
Thursday Review/Walkthrough- If we're there longer than an hour, we're doing something wrong
Friday School's out at 3. Do team walk through on the field at 530. I used to worry about feeding them and what choices they'd make if they were away and I realized it was stupid. If they're idiots, they're still going to find ways to drink pops and be morons if they're at the school the entire time. This way, I at least get a couple hours of sanity before the game. Luckily, I have good kids and they usually hole up somewhere and watch a movie or something.

Saturday: Coaches have film on Hudl, also available to players. Sunday: Coaches meet, breakdown film, plan for the week (defense comes in the morning, everyone together and special teams early afternoon, offense spends the rest of the afternoon. Monday: Film after school with varsity, JV goes to practice. Varsity practice full pads. Long day, trade off for getting Saturday off. A little more offense than defense, more individual, but also overall look at opponent. Tuesday: Full pads. A little more defense than offense. Wednesday: shorts and shoulder pads. shorter individual, more group and team time. Thursday: no pads. More than a walkthrough, we go over all situations that we might face. 2 minute drill. Friday: Players stay at school, pregame meal about 3:45. Meetings in the afternoon, first group goes out around 6, we're on the field until about 7, leave....gametime at 7:30.
