I am looking for ways to include the assistant coaches in the end of the year banquet. Instead of just recognizing them and having them pass out awards, what are programs doing to give them some responsibility? This was my first year as a HC and the end of the year banquet went well but I am always looking for ways to improve.

We have each position coach introduce their seniors and talk about them during the banquet.

Like give them responsibilities for the banquet? Speaking as an assistant myself I want 0 responsibility at our banquet. Our HC speaks about the season, the sr class, gives out our 3 awards, and what ever else we have to pass out to the kids and that is it. The boosters have a highlight/slide show of the season they show after dinner. Not sure what an assistant could add to the banquet.

The banquet is not one of my favorite parts of coaching but I do want it to be special for the players. I only talk about the players that get the voted awards. All of our assistants speak about the players they were most responsible for. I want our football community to get a sense of the quality that we have on our staff. Most likely the banquet is the only time parents will hear your assistants speak to an audience.

At our banquet, some of the assistants introduce and talk about the JV and Soph teams. Others introduce and give team awards. The head coach talks about every senior and reflects on the season.

Our assistant coaches give out most of the awards (that most closely match their coaching responsibility--off line, special teams). I give out a couple of overall team awards. When we haven't given out enough of those, or if a coach doesn't want to speak, I have had them hand out the letters or certificates (or whatever you hand out) to their position players as I call the names.

As stated already, we introduce our senior and I divide up the players among the varsity staff. In our situation each coach gets to introduce and talk about them (usually 4 to 5 players). Our coaches don't mind getting up and talking and most of the time you can find something nice to say about your players.
