Need a little help in defining the job of an Assistant Head Coach.
If you would please, list any and all things you think might be involved in the job description of that position. Thank you in advance.

Around here it is usually an older experienced guy on your staff who doesn't hold one of the coordinator titles.

So, can you give me a description of what he does? What duties does he fulfill for the Head Coach?

Do you already have someone on staff with this "title" that you're trying to create a job description for?
Or are you trying to develop a job description to see if you can add an additional "title" on staff?
I always thought that if you couldn't come up with the job description on your own and had to dig at all for that information, it's probably a role that's already fulfilled by one or more coaches on staff.
Ultimately the "title" was the equivalent of unnecessary overhead.

Have someone on staff but want to create a job description for him.
Just wanted to get some ideas on top of what I think needs to be done:
In absence of the HC, the Assistant HC will assume the role of the HC. The Assist. HC would/could be a liason between state officials and the HC (working with the state organization along with the HC or in his absence). The Assist. HC would oversee certain aspects of the game and/or practice routines (filming, handling of officials, field prep, media prep, etc.)
I guess the major role would be that the Assistant HC would assume the responsibilities of the HC in the case of absence.
We had a case against a team this year that their HC was ill during the 2nd half. After talking to the coaches afterwards there was no protocol for who would or would not be the acting HC to make executive game time decisions and so forth.
Just wanted to get some ideas. I really don't think this is a "title" that is just handed down to someone for the sake of naming someone. I think it would be for organizational purposes. That's the reason that I am asking.

I have that title. Best friend is the HC, told him I wanted to be Ast. Head Coach. He said ok.
I do a lot more than any of the other assistant coaches and handle a bunch of stuff I am sure most others assistant coaches do. Like all of our recruiting stuff, set up exchanges, find games for open dates if we need them, order stuff, all kinds of stuff like that. It's kind of know that I was the #2 on staff so I figured Assistant Head Coach would be a nice title to use and give me a bit more juice when dealing with people outside the program.

Also meant that, in lieu of the HC being there, I was explicitly the one handling any decisions. Examples: HC asks me to handle uniform distribution on Thursday night. I know how to do that, so I do it, which allows him to leave early for once that week. HC needs to fill out paperwork for the bus to our first game. I have no idea how to do that, but I start practice on time while he's arguing with the AD over what kind of bus to take for a 75min drive. Kid breaks his ankle at practice. Because I have all the necessary keys, I go open the various locks/gates necessary in order to get the medics directly onto the field while he stays with the kid and works the phone with EMTs, parents, etc. Part of this is just being a good asst, but my specific role was to do 'boring' HC duties whenever possible so that he could do important HC duties better.

"Do everything the HC doesn't want to do."
"Do everything the HC forgets to do."

Ours:
Assistant Head Coach (John Smith)
- Serves as acting Head Coach in absence of Head Coach - Liaison to (school) administration - Helps foster relationship between (team) football and the (city) community - Oversee summer job program - Assist Head Coach in administrative duties
Overall, I think you can pretty much make it whatever it needs to be. Our AHC also serves as Strength & Conditioning Coordinator, Equipment Coordinator, and oversees our academic monitoring program.

"Do everything the HC doesn't want to do." "Do everything the HC forgets to do." Also, if HC is off campus, " do everything the HC can't do because he's not there from 8-3"

I have that title, and I handle all of the purchase orders for anything we buy, we go to team camp every year and I will collect all the money from the players, fund raising, I will collect all money and turn in to the school, team shop we do online, I will handle all the disribution of gear to the players, I organize our managers, handle the issuing of uniforms before game,we are getting new uniforms this year, I designed and order that through the AD, if HC is not in the building All calls are forwarded to me, if college coaches come by and HC is not there they see me, the HC trust me and I have been an assistnt with him going on 10 years, so I know him pretty good, I also try to be the buffer for him, so many petty little things pop up that he doesn't have time to deal with so I handle it, if I think he needs to know or its really serious then I will take it to him. we have over 100 kids in our program from freshman to the varsity level, so something is always going on. I will say this,my HC does a good job deligating jobs to coaches that they are good at,
