Since this is the time of year when we see all of the colleges roll out their recruiting videos trying to get players to come to their school, it got me to wondering if anyone on here uses video to promote their program. I could envision it as a tool to get the younger grades interested and to get the community more on board.
I was thinking of something along the lines of some highlights of game footage, practices and weight room along with some player voice overs, or on screen talking about what it meant to them to play football here.
Of course this would take a lot of time, so who knows if it would ever get from the idea stage to getting done, but it seems like a pretty good idea. Just wondered if anyone does this now and how effective do you think it is?

Last year we did one to promote our offseason S&C program. I'm working on fitting time into my schedule just after season ends to make a "recruiting" one that I get to all the Jr. Highs and Middle Schools because we have open enrollment here so a kid can go ANYWHERE he wants regardless of where he lives, so I have to spend most my offseason recruiting my own players.

Very nice. What program did you use to make this?
Another thought I had was to get some of the other sports on board, maybe it could become a "all sport" video for the jr high kids.

Roxio Creator... Cost $99 at Best Buy. Had to purchase upgrade from NERO because our new HD Cameras are MPEG-2 and the audio files are MP4 format and the old program didn't recognize that file-type.

HERE's an in-season motivational video we did a year ago prior to our first game. We have done off-season videos of our strength & conditioning program before as well. This off-season, we are going to attempt to do a larger, more full-scaled project that culminates with watching a pre-season trailer at the local movie theater. That's in the planning stages right now though.

We actually make a pregame motivational film for before every game, players like them and they could serve the same purpose in the offseason. Go to my youtube channel EJSholtis and check them out if you wish. Great tool for promoting program and keeping players involved.

A well done video can be a huge asset to your program. We have made videos to use at youth coaching clinics, luncheons our HC visits to speak, and other community events. We show motivationals each week, season highlights at the banquet, and a few others throughout the year when we see the need. They can get the kids on the team excited, as well as those that may be considering playing in the future, not to mention potential donors and sponsors.

Get your hands on a Mac, and just use iMovie. Easy to use and you don't have to buy it. The "movie trailer" template is very slick.

Agree that iMovie is pretty good (and free, which is great). However, if you really want to take it up a notch - Final Cut Pro is the way to go.
Of course, it is far from free.

Go into iMovie, click on New Project, and you will see the Movie Trailer options on the bottom-left.
