What do others do and why? Do you have your players hold hand in the huddle? Does it do any good? My thoughts: we did this in college in the offensive huddle. Reasons behind it was that it built team unity or something to that effect. I always felt that I could off used my hands better in helping myself catch my breath after the play. I didn't feel that it brought us closer together but just gave me slimy hands from the guy next to me.
I am not trying to be a smart-A, just curious behind the reason some coaches do this.

No for me.....too homoerotic for my tastes....that goes for coming onto the field or whatever. Only time a guy should hold hands with another guy is for prayer....and then ....maaaybe.

Two years ago the kids decided to hold hands in the huddle on their own. I had nothing to do with it at all. That was the only team that ever did it. While I suppose it might build some unity, I don't think it is a big deal at all.

Brophy - Apologizing for taking this down a road that I probably shouldn't, but, in your particular and very specific case, homoerotic sounds pretty good! ;D I'm going to h e l l...

As camp as a row of tents, lol!
Sorry, not for me. Personally I HATED it as a player when I'm in a huddle anyone touching me, like if I was knelt down a guy with a hand on my shoulder... not being able to freely move my hands would wind me up no end!

Every time I see a team holding hands I keep waiting for them to start singing "Kumbaya"!!

Agree with calande - I don't think there's any reason it will help you win - but if the kids do, well, let 'em!

I think the only time this works is when the players come up with the idea on their own! If we try to mandate this, it would be a struggle. Also brings to mind a question. We all remember the 10-0 championship team that held hands... Anyone remember the 1-9 team that held hands? And for that championship team, did they win because they held hands, or did they win because they were good and wanted to hold hands, or did their hand holding relfect their tremendous team unity and THAT is why they won?

We do it.
I am at a Catholic grade school, and the kids started the tradition of doing it years ago, so it has been passed on. We do try to teach them the one unit - one family - one team philosophy, but I do agree, holding hands in the huddle does not helps us win or lose.

I don't coach it up. But if they want to do it they can do it. I have coached at 3 schools and one school did do it on defense. It was started by the captains. I think it can be a symbol of team unity, but at the same time teams can be united without holding hands.

I was going to say the same thing. what is all this huddling around for. wastes time when you can be running another play. I do not believe in huddling on offense as you can tell. I could be running the double wing( oh my gosh I cannot believe i just said that) and we would still be running the amtrack express.
do not believe in the defense standing around in a huddle and holding hand either.
