Anybody here ever trade films over the internet?
Do you think this could be the way trades are done in upcomming seasons?
Your thoughts....

it is "the way" we're doing it this year. every team in the district voted on it and all our games will be traded via internet. if it works like the people tell us, should be a major time saver.

We are not doing it that way yet, but within a few years I think everyone will be.

Sounds good. How are you guys actually trading? Via email? Google video/youtube? Or do you have a site to upload/download to? Last season we went all digital, so we can burn dvd's and send video via the web. But the rest of our league with the exception of one other school, still use VHS tape. I would like to see us go to trading via the web. It would be such a time saver. Coach Huey, keep us posted on how this works out for you guys.

Just make sure you whole league does it. We signed up with a service last year. Despite promises from the other schools in the league only two others joined. A serious waste of funds for us...

A serious waste of funds for us... it's in the district minutes. whole district had to vote to go to this. laid out the particulars & put them in writing ... will have to answer to uil if they try to back-out

I believe that this is the same company that our district went with. Like you said, it should be a real time saver. Just have to determine how to transfer it into our computer program after we download it. It shouldn't be a problem though.

There are some real positive to this type of transfer. One is that you are transfering digital files, so no more analog coversions. I do have some questions though . . . . - What format is the video stored? Native digitial or is it converted to AVI? The reason I would want to know this is that I can estimate the file sizes generated and thus the download and upload time. While many of us have broadband service, the fact is that most of these fast pipes have very slow upload times to go along with fast download. If you've never tested your upload speed: performance.toast.net/Click on the upload test. - Who owns copyright to the uploaded video? - They require some very specific hardware. Why? And does everyone have a digital camera? Is there a minimum resolution set? - I can just imagine an opposing coach having very convenient 'technical difficulties' after he has downloaded your film. How do you prevent this type of problem? - Do you have a means of downsampling resolution? I hate giving grade A tape to teams that provide us with tape that was shot by a person with nervous tick sitting in the front row - who didn't realize he was zoomed-in fully. - How do you deal with coaches who shoot 2 sideline films - one they use and one piece of crap they trade?
