Back when I played, we used this and I thought it was very well received. Some guys bought into it more than others, but for the most part I would say that it was beneficial. We would spend the first 15-20 minutes of practice inside going over the lessons. Every coach would take a day and give the lesson so there was a different voice being heard every day.
I would recommend it to anyone, but you have to commit to it and use some of the things that are talked about in the lessons in order for the kids to buy in. Some of it is cheesy and forced, but none the less still a good overall program.

We've used it the last 2 years. As jj said above, some buy into it others do not. However, whether they immediately buy in or not, they need to hear it daily. We take approx 20 minutes a day on the lessons. The overall buy -in was greater the second year. It's well worth the investment. Try www.coachingtochangelives.com

I use and I think it is great... take about 15 a day, but at least it gets the kids thinking. I figure if it helps one kid. It is worth it.

Do you coaches use it for the entire program or just the varsity level?

I would not buy it personally. The program it is. We have used it in the past and the stuff in there is great, but after seeing it, and talking about it amongst the staff, all the program is to me is an organized version of what we preach every day to the kids. We now just do some class time in addition to our every day discussions about goal setting citizenship academics effort teamwork sacrifice etc
all those things are the reasons I am a coach in the first place. To teach that stuff to kids. Make them better adults by having learned that from me, the coaches around me, and from the best sport in the world.
Just my take on it.

I've never used that program before, but I did my own lessons for my kids last fall.
You can find them at the address in my signature.

I believe that this is by Dennis Parker now at Texas Lutheran University. I heard him speak this winter and he was one of the most impressive speakers I heard this year about character education and coaching management. It was a shame to me that his audience was so small. This are some of the things that really matter in our profession. I bought the book but our program has not implemented it.
