We only do on weeks they aren't in school and it's not quite that early but I don't mind them. Honestly for college it makes sense and I could see benefits but at high school, say you start school at 7:05 like we do, a 2 hour practice would have to start between 4-430 to give them time to shower, just don't see how it would be feasible.

Coached at a D-III college that is on Quarters so during Two-a-days we had some players in school.
For a couple years we started practice at 7 am to accommodate them.
It was DARK out when we began and the mosquitoes got well-fed.
Finally we said "Screw it" and if some kids can't make practice or only be there for part of it, so be it.
I will never start practice before 9 am.

There's a school that you guys used to play all the time up here that practices on Thursday AM before school.. Just like coach wilder says in the article they are doing it mostly out of necessity..

Our offseason S&C program is from 5:30 AM - 7:00 AM M-F... always battles with parents and kids with the early time, but it is the only time of the day where the ONLY excuse for not being there is LAZY

This week we did some walk-through stuff at 6am, but that was more out of necessity b/c we missed two days of school/practice due to the weather. Our HC loves it! We are like cqmiller in that we'll do some S&C at 6am as well.

Morning Practices sound awful.

We had a weird scheduling conflict with our field one week last year, I can't remember exactly what it was but we did a morning defensive session and then a quick afternoon offensive session for a total of about 2 1/2 hours. Kids weren't thrilled, but we got good work done.
I'm a huge proponent of zero period weights, though.
