Went 7-1, best record in school history after going 2-6 a year before. Have never been league champs in school history (11 year program). Scores were 36-22 36-19 58-12 55-14 30-28 53-7 55-50 32-36 6-8 (tiebreaker) Last 3 games vs. same team (our league is setup wierd). Beat them by 5 at home, lost by 6 on the road and then lost in the tiebreaker game by 2. Kinda heartbreaking at the end but what a ride. I will say this, the UBSW is fun to coach in! Lost 3 players to injury, 2 in the last loss. Did not have a single kid quit all season! Cubbord is going to be very thin for next season, but hopefully the success will bring out more kids. Duece P.S.- Jr. High kids btw.

We played in our league championship game last Saturday night. We were 8-1 and facing a 7-0 team that we lost to, 36-6, in the final game of the regular season. We made a bunch of defensive adjustments from the first game. I was very confident that we could score at least 30 against them - the big question was whether we could stop them. We kicked off and they drove right down and scored. The big play of the drive was a 30-yd pass play to their TE on a simple out, but our CB (who's sole responsibility against that formation is to cover that TE) had his nose in the backfield and just let the TE run right by him. 8-0 them. We get the ball and go 3 & out. They march down the field again and score. 14-0 them. I call the team over and remind them about maintaining our poise and playing our game. We get the ball and drive down the field and score 14-8. We onside, recover, and immediately punch the ball in and take the lead, 16-14 (the first time our opponent had been behind all season. They score again, 20-16 them, and then get another one right before halftime, augghh, we're down 26-16 at the half.
We make a couple defensive adjustments at halftime and reminded the kids that we're doing well offensively - just keep scoring and if we tackle and play our assignments properly on defense, we should be able to win this game. We get the second half kickoff and immediately throw a pick-six. Now we're down 34-16. After another TD by them we're down 42-16. A lot of teams would have fallen apart at this point, and just quit and mailed it in the rest of the game. I was so proud of my boys - they battled and fought back. We got back on track offensively and scored to make it 40-24, then we got a turnover and marched back down the field and scored on the first play of the 4th quarter to make it 42-32. At this point, we have momentum and I'm feeling like we have a pretty good chance to win. We bottle them up on a couple of plays then we're in perfect position to stop them on a sweep play to their fastest RB - three different guys are in position to tackle him in the backfield for a loss, and all of them miss and he breaks free and goes about 50 yds for a TD. 49-32 them. We roared back, again, though and scored to make it 49-40, and again, I felt that we had momentum and we could win. But, again, we just couldn't stop them. They scored once to make it 57-40, stopped us, scored again to make it 65-40, but we still didn't give up, scoring one last time for the final score of 65-48.
Who's ever heard of 113 pts in a Pop Warner game?? If you have told me before the game that we were going to score 48 points, I would have said that's crazy, but I would have guaranteed we would win the game. We haven't been dominant on defense all year, but we've been solid (averaging right around 1 TD per game against our starters) - I never would have dreamed that we would give up 65 points to anybody. Holy smokes. I'm pretty upset about our defensive incompetence, but I'm so proud of our guys for hanging in there and never giving up. They battled the whole game.
After the game, we went to a local restaurant to drown our sorrows. About 1/3 to 1/2 of the team was there along with their parents. I was the last one to show up (dealing with collecting equipment at the field, then sending out a bunch of text messages before I went in). When I walked in, all the players and parents there gave me a round of applause. I was totally not expecting that - I was really touched; I {censored} near cried.
Our results for the entire season:
Win 26-12 Win 32-18 Win 30-8 Win 30-27 Win 41-20 Win 33-6 Win 36-12 Loss 36-6 Playoff Win 42-18 Championship Loss 65-48

Our first playoff game is tommorrow. We are the number one seed. Regular season we went 7 - 1. We lost our first game and then went on a 7 game winning streak. In 8 games we scored 350pts. We are a pretty good team. If we play to our capabilities we should make the superbowl but that's why you play the game. You never know with kids.

We won the league title last night, 18-7. We knocked off a team that thumped us during the regular season so it felt good. I did feel bad because we had two kids that just got minimum playing time. We kind of lost track of the primary goal of youth football in the heat of it all. Congrats coach! What I have done with the minimum playing time rule is this. During the season I always get the kids more than the minimum. During playoffs if we are winning pretty easy then the same rule applies. Here is what I tell the kids before the playoffs begin. We have coached you guys to the best of our ability. We are now in the playoffs so there is no second chances. If you want more than the minumum playing time you must be contributing on the field. Im not going to play you more than your minimum if you are not giving a 100% effort. (there are always a few mpp that just go thru the motions) You said in the heat of the moment "you lost track of the primary goal of youth football". I dont think you did. You have taught the kids how to play football (appearantly pretty good) and you have made all the kids competitive and showed them its a competitive sport. If you where being 100% fair and a parent asked you "why didnt my son play more than the minimun?" The honest asnwer would be, the other kid was better in front of him and we where trying to win a championship. If the kids/parents understand anything about team sports this answer would be good enough. If the mpp are kids that will battle later on in there football youth they may think you for this. Makes them work harder. JMO

6-1, heading to the city championship Saturday.
Jamboree Game Patriots 21, Cardinals 0 Patriots 38, Jets 26 Patriots 34, Cardinals 0 Patriots 18, Raiders 27 Patriots 42, Jets 20 Patriots 43, Cardinals 0 Patriots 33, Raiders 0
Now we're moving on to play the Jets again, we're finally getting fully healthy towards the last two games of the year so I expect some pretty good results from the boys come Saturday. I'll let you guys know how it turns out, win or lose the important thing is everyone has had a great time this year and next year about 6 of these boys will be wearing high school uniforms.

We won our league championship finishing the season 9-0 running coach Cisar's program. We had every player run the ball that could and everyone kicked off. Our end of the year totals were points for 221 against 38.

We finished 5-4, 2nd place in the Warrior Pee Wees. The 1st place team was 9-0 and unscored on. They had managed to draft a preponderance of players they'd coached in previous years.
Defense dominated to a degree we hadn't seen in the JPWs. Over the years they get better at stopping breakaway plays and at holding onto the ball.

Our final game is over, we lost 22-7 after having three touchdowns called back and a fumble that somehow ended up the other team's ball despite us coming out of the pile with it.
I literally feel like I've been punched in the stomach, and I've felt sick every since the loss. Worst feeling ever...

We won....we are going to the superbowl. Final score 80 to 56. Crazy youth rules. Designed to keep the score down but its doing just the opposite. We go up by 25pts they pull our top 6 players. They get within 10pts our players back in. We play that game all second half. I hate that rule. Makes it even worse is after the team scores we have to kick it back to them. Ohwell at least we won and we are playing the team we played last game of regular season. They where undefeated. We won in a barnburner 58. 50. Going to be fun.

We have a weird mercy rule like that too... If you go up by 35, the other team gets it in the 20 yard line. They get 8 downs to punch it in and they just start over at the 20 yard line if they don't. They kick off if they score. We went an entire half with the opposing team on offense.

8-2 Super Bowl Champions
I have been using Cisars offense since 2007. This is our 4th Championship win in a highly competive league that has lots of Southlake Carrol and Keller kids in it. What makes this special is the team we beat. They have not lost a game in 29 games (playing in select level leagues) leading up to our game, and had beaten us twice in the regular season by a touchdown each time. I spent about 20 hours on HUDL with my high school head coach brother, and made some tweaks on defense and personel, as well as using the wedge much more, (as I had a speedster who usually hit the 6 hole and went yard many times.) This allowed us to chew the clock and it made the difference. Plus we won the turnover battle. The typical formula for success. 285 pts for the season.
Cowboys 21 Longhorns 0 Cowboys 12 Canes 20 Cowboys 27 Bobcats 20 Cowboys 40 Legends 12 Cowboys 27 Hogs 6 Cowboys 27 Longhorns 12 Cowboys 20 Canes 26 Cowboys 32 Bobcats 28 Cowboys 49 Hogs 20 (PLAYOFFS) Cowboys 34 Canes 20 (SUPER BOWL)

They kick off if they score. We went an entire half with the opposing team on offense. That's a good one, but with one defect. It gives both teams something realistic to shoot for even after the game is out of hand, but only if they leave their 1st string in. So I'd recommend it to leagues whose teams don't have a problem getting their scrubs a worthwhile amount of play, but not if they have large rosters and should really put in the scrubs the remainder of the game. Maybe the league should make it optional, i.e. the teams can agree to do it once they find themselves in that situation, or they can choose at that point to play regular rules if they want to get their scrubs in more.

What I can't understand is why a league that plays double round robin then needs to have playoffs at all, let alone have 4 of the 5 teams qualifying. Above, the Canes beat the Cowboys twice. Why should the title have been on the line in one game between those teams at the end? They play 8 games each just to knock out 1 team from contention? I could understand if the standings were tied after double round robin that you could play games to break the tie. Otherwise, though, it just says that some games count more than others.

Our Rookie team (7-8yr olds) went 4-2. They lost in the play-offs. Our Jr.'s (9 & 10yr olds) went 4-2 regular season. Won in the play-offs. But, lost in the Championship game 7-0 to the undefeated team in our league. We should have been an undefeated team. The blame is all on me. I am the HC of the Jr. team and I failed to correct the mistakes that I knew my OC was making this season. However, those boys went from a team that lost every game last season(they only scored one TD all of last season) to a team that made it to the Championship game this season. Believe me when I say it took a lot of fast talking and soft shoeing to get parents to bring their kids back to the team this season. They are a great group of kids. Our Sr. team (11- 12yr. olds) went undefeated and pretty easily won it all. Not really much to talk about there. When you have an over-abundance of size, speed and talent you should win championships. Ever notice how stud players make us coaches look good? I mean really, as a coach you know you have an overly talented team when a kid nick-named 'Speedy' is only about the 4th fastest kid on the team and isn't even a starter on offense. Those young men made us look like Buddy Ryans and Vince Lombardis.

Just a follow up. 4 of the 6 teams qualified, with us being the #2 seed obviously. The playoff format is designed to give the kids an exciting atmosphere and playing through the season.
While I don't expect you to know all the behind the scenes stuff and political fun that went on, the playoffs were proof the football gods watch. The team that went undefeated in the regular season put 50 points on ever team except us. They are a select team run by the VP of the league. They have been together 3 years and have the pick of the litter. They have been practicing since May. He wanted an opportunity to showcase his super squad, so he made the executive decision to play "one season" gaining confidence in the rec league.
I show up with just my son on my roster, and draft August. My first practice with kids who have never played together started on August 14. A mere 3 years and 4 months behind this other team.
Every week we kept working harder. Week 2 we played them, we lost by a touchdown, and it was obvious we had a ways to go. By week 7, only a last minute TD called back had us from tying them. We told the kids to keep focused and work on our game, and we would have another chance. By the time the Super Bowl came around, we had just grown in experience and cohesion and as a coaching staff. We won 34-20.
Since we didn't do a full 2 team round robin, (we played 2 teams only once), I was glad to have the opportunity to grow the team to its potential and also have the opportunity to beat a team that gamed the system, with all the marbles, in front of the league, the dream the other coach envisioned. Almost.

Just a follow up. 4 of the 6 teams qualified, with us being the #2 seed obviously. Sorry, I misread the team names, thinking there were only 4 opponents that you played twice each. Seems you had 1 game vs. Hogs, 1 vs. Legends. Why didn't they just make the last 2 games another one each against these teams, and then it'd've been a perfect double round robin, with no need for a bye any week? Seems a no-brainer. Yeah, I missed that the 1st time around. Must've been interesting "politics".

The bottom two teams didn't make the playoffs and then we had a 4 team playoff, so no bye games. We could have had a round robin season and the best record wins it all, but the VP wanted a triumphant march to a big Super Bowl win in a giant stadium.
