We just had our rules meeting tonight and one of the rules set to take effect in 2010 is that visiting uniforms must be all white except for the numbers. No stripes, lines, anything colored other than white. They said many new unifroms styles made it hard to see who was who ( sounds like bull to me) Not sure if this was know or if they misinterperted it for us but they showed a slide with a plain white jersey and numbers only as the only legal visiting uniform effective 2010. Just a heads up for those of you shopping for unifors in the next few years.

Not true. You will still be able to have stripes on sleeves, border on collar and/or cuff, and side insert. Just trying to do away with two-color jerseys (ex. body white, shoulders dark color) and unnecessary striping like Denver Broncos, Miami Hurricanes, et al.

Does anyone have pictures of what is acceptable vs. unacceptable with this new rule? We're looking at purchasing new uniforms next season.

Just trying to do away with two-color jerseys
Remember BYU's beige and blue ones from a few (5+) years ago... they (NCAA) got rid of those after one season. Ugliest jersey I've ever seen (and I'm still not sure which combination was home and which was away).

can the side panel be a different color? we have white uniforms with a vegas gold shoulder swoosh like northwestern and USC and the side panels are vegas gold with purple numbers. Our side panels do not come all the way up and into the front of the uniform like the Broncos, just into the armpit.

Those will be acceptable, I believe. The side panels are acceptable. It's trying to get rid of stuff on the front.

They showed a slide with a Denver type jersey say it was illegal but just pulled this off the NFHS site:
Because of increasing amounts of color in visiting team’s “light” jerseys, beginning in the 2010 season, more stringent requirements will take effect that will eliminate confusion as to which jerseys are dark and which are light. The revised rule will require the yoke and the body of the visiting team’s jersey to be white and will dictate the areas of the jersey that can have adornments and accessory patterns. Those areas will be stripes on the sleeves, a border around the collar and cuffs, and a side seam (from the underarms to the top of the pants) 4 inches in width.
“Approximately 10 years ago, the NFHS Football Rules Committee began liberalizing the ‘jersey rule’ by removing basic restrictions on decorations and other limitations,” Cashman said. “An unintended consequence of such liberalization has been the often-reported ‘blending’ of the dark-colored home team jerseys and the light-colored visiting team jerseys, creating confusion on the part of players, officials and spectators. Beginning in 2010, that confusion should be eliminated.”
Diehl said that manufacturers have been asking for more direction with regard to the changes in uniform design. The four-year phase-in period will allow this change to be implemented during the normal uniform replacement cycle, thus minimizing the financial impact on schools. He also noted that this change will allow the home team to wear some of the newer styles of jerseys, and, over the course of a season, will be fair to all teams.

I don't mind this rule change at all. It will get us back to the basics and get rid of the XFL influence!

we have a couple of schools in our area that have silver or vegas gold uniforms for their away jerseys. I think this is part of the ruling as well.
