We just played and lost in our sectional semi-final. Any other states (NY other than Long Island and NYC) where your season can be over by October 26th? 9 games and done if you don't go to the sectional final. Downright depressing!!!!!!!!

In Michigan season was over October 20 if you weren't one of 276 (of about 620) that qualified for play offs.
If you lost Pre-District this weekend you're putting away the gear now, too.
No matter when or how it ends, it's a letdown.
I'd rather go 5-4 winning Week 9 than make playoffs and get bounced first round.

In Ohio we are done with our 10 game regular season on October 26th this year. State finals are played the first weekend in December.

I'm guessing Thanksgiving rivalries don't exist outside the northeast? The earliest we can possibly be done every year is on thanksgiving.

In Iowa, you can lose your first round playoff game and still be done on October 24th, as we did Last day of regular season play for Iowa and Illinois teams was the weekend of October 19/20th.

I'm guessing Thanksgiving rivalries don't exist outside the northeast? The earliest we can possibly be done every year is on thanksgiving. I think that is fairly accurate. Thanksgiving Friday is usually 3rd round of playoffs here in Louisiana. I remember being shocked about reading all of these thanksgiving rivalry game stories here on huey. Hell, some places they interrupt their playoffs

So we play a playoff game then play a non-league game vs our rival from the next state over (bordering towns). Most people in these towns would rather win on thanksgiving than in the playoffs. That's how big the thanksgiving day game is here.

We finished on the 18th. Didn't make the playoffs. As much as I hate when the season ends, this one couldn't end soon enough. We have a lot of work to do this offseason.

NorCal we have last season game this Friday, 11/02. 11 weeks to play 10 games. Playoffs start the next week. State championship is December 15th or so. Two more games for our section. There's a cool traditional game in San Jose between Lincoln HS and San Jose HS. Neither team participates in playoffs, regardless of record, and they play a Thanksgiving game in front of sometimes as many as 12,000 people. One game pays for most of the sports for the year. Pretty cool if you ask me!

In Indiana everyone makes the playoffs, they started on the 19th. This is the tenth game of the season and half the teams are putting away their gear. Three rounds of sectional to eliminate all the teams that don't belong then regional, semi-state then state. All football is over on Black Friday or the Saturday after.

Our season (JR High) ended last week, however we tied for league champion, so we play 1 quarter tomorrow for our tiebreaker. Our season will end Monday with us either as a champ or not, and I'm not ready for the ride to be over...

In my home state of wisconsin you play 8 games to decide who goes to the playoffs. teams not making the playoffs can schedule a 9th game during the first week of the playoffs.
I remember when we played 10 games in wisconsin with the top two teams making the playoffs for each conference..

I'm guessing Thanksgiving rivalries don't exist outside the northeast? The earliest we can possibly be done every year is on thanksgiving. In the bigger classes in Arkansas, if you're practicing on Thanksgiving it means you're in the semi-finals. Pretty big deal and something a lot of coaches stress.

Deuce my man, let us know what happened. You've had a great ride this year. But for me...NO, not depressed at all. More like a "thank the Lord," now we can get in the weightroom and get stronger and let my babies grow up and start shaving.

Duece, I don't mean to be rude, but why go to trouble of playing off a Junior High co-championship? Not to demean importance of it to you or your kids, but it's Junior High and seems a little like over-emphasis. I don't know what state you're in but we wouldn't even do that for a HS title at any level. There's just Co-Champs. And, what if you're still tied after the Quarter?

I realize it's not your doing. I've just never heard of something like this and am trying to understand the why-necessity for it at that level.
Regardless, hope your team plays well!

I'm still trying to get over our last game. We were upset in the playoffs by a team we should have beaten. I have a lot of young assistants and they are having a tougher time than I am.

I'm guessing Thanksgiving rivalries don't exist outside the northeast? The earliest we can possibly be done every year is on thanksgiving. In Michigan, if you play Thanksgiving weekend you are either STATE CHAMPS or RUNNER-UP. The whole season and play-off structure has been set-up to make sure that the 8 State Champs are crowned on the Friday & Saturday after Thanksgiving. Not as long of a tradition as in the northeast, but ever since I was little Thanksgiving Weekend has been watch the Lions...and my grandpa cursing...on Thursday followed by watching high school state finals on Friday & Saturday. After a total of 9 or more football games in 3 days combined with the tryptophan from the turkey, I'm often in too much of a daze to enjoy any of the NFL games on Sunday.
