This is my first year to Coach (offensive coordinator) and I am just really proud of my team so far.
We play in a 15-18 player keeper league and out of 10 teams we are one of two teams that are brand new, fielding a team with the HC's son, 2 kids that I met in the Wal-Mart parking lot, and 11 players that signed up with the league and were assigned to us.
At the beginning of the season a few of the daddy's questioned my Delaware Wing-T offense, and wondered why we weren't running the spread and passing it more.
We haven't played a single team that hasn't felt very confident during pre-game, even pointing and saying how small we are.
Sitting at 3-0 the other coaches and parents love how lost opposing defenses look against our misdirection.
Our next game is the biggest challenge to date. We are playing against a very well established 30 player program that plays in the highly competitive regional league, and also in our "15 player everyone plays" league. Quite honestly, they have no business fielding a team in our league, but that just makes us want to beat them even more.
Before the season I had 1 coach and a few parents that wanted to forfeit the game in protest, and we are now preparing to try beat them. Is that going to happen? I really don't know, I am just ecstatic that we have put any hint of the defeatist attitude to rest.
