How many states allow spring football? Spring practice, spring league both apply. In Michigan we have a rule that only 7 players can be with a coach when teaching football skills. You can not just go on one side of the gym either but 1 coach on the schools grounds. But the rule is very loosely worded for the summer I believe. I had our AD calling the schools in the conference and some in the bigger areas of the state and even the head man of the MHSSA. So which states allow spring practice with team drills?

We have it in Connecticut. The horrible thing is now they are talking about getting rid of it. Would be a shame. =(

Oklahoma gives 10 days of full pads. Can not start until the last spring state championship has been played. Also allow 2 padded team camps in the summer. Those must be completed by I think July 15th.

Wisconsin doesn't have spring ball, but the coaches do get five non consectitive contact days during the summer. They can wear pads or not it's up to the coaches.

texas, depending on the size of your school
i know 4a and 5a schools do, i'm not sure about any of the lower classifications
we also have a trade off. if we have spring ball, then we start practice later in the fall.
if you don't have spring ball, you can start earlier.
i can't wait till spring ball. pure competition for spots. who wants it the most. good stuff.

SC gets 10 days with limited contact.
In the offseason you can have 1 on 3 drills with a ball. This is 1 coach with 3 players per day per program. In other words if the varsity coach takes the WRs out to throw and catch, the JV, freshman, or middle school cannot go out also, even if they are at another building/field.
What is your opinion on why your state does what it does? I get the feeling that the restrictions come from coaches that don't want to work........

In NC we cant have spring practice per say. However, we are allowed an unlimited number of days for skill development during the spring as long as there are 21 or less players. We can wear pads but no body to body contact.
