Does anyone swap uniforms in-and-out at the High School level as much as they do at the college level? What are you thoughts about it?
Personally, I think we're starting to see enough of the crazy uniforms: they look like Jackson Pollack paintings in many cases.
Whatever happened to having a logo and uniform that people took pride in, were a privilege to wear, and were an honor to represent?
Whatever happened to substance-over-style, and just focusing how you play, not how you look?
Execution still wins games. True class still speaks for itself.

Probably won't become a big problem in HS ball. We don't get the unis for free.

Somewhere, maybe SI or MSN or something (I can't remember now), I read that a survey had shown college recruits now list uniforms as one of the top deciding factors in what school they go to. The kids coming out of HS now think it's cool, so you can't blame the colleges for jumping on the trend if it means they sign a couple more recruits they wanted. Like phantom said, we had enough of a problem getting one new set of uniforms.

Civilians are so week and easily manipulated I agree with you on that, wholeheartedly. IMO, the flashy uniforms are detrimental to the game in some ways. It puts a materialistic tag on the game that also feeds into individuality. I get tired of the "I only play good if I looks good". In many ways i do not blame the kids. They have been brought up this way. The second half of the baby boomers aka generation jones was all about materialism. Having the right car, living in the right town or part of the city.

For our 20th anniversary we are scrapping our flash looking jerseys and going back to a plain navy blue with white print. And they look awesome

First of all its "weak" not "week." Second I see nothing wrong with it at all. Some coaches like the traditional look other like to be flashy. People thought that jimmy Johnson was a jack ass when his team was acting a fool but that doesn't change the fact he kicked butt year in and year out. College football is about making yourself a brand so you can get the top recruits. Not every team is on the same playing field as an Alabama or lsu

I don't really mind them, although I personally prefer something a little bit simpler. Last time we purchased new uniforms it was a bit of a compromise between the two. We bough traditional home and road jerseys, with 2 colors of solid pants which gave us 4 uniform combinations. The kids liked the variety. The adults liked the traditional look.
The thing that I really can't understand is why some teams go away from their colors in their alternate jerseys. I don't understand why Michigan State, Mississippi State, etc use colors that aren't their school colors. I guess if it is bringing in recruits, that is probably the answer.

See at least even with oregon, they are green and gold no matter what sort. A lot of it comes down to guys wanting to look good. My wife was asking me the other night why the D1 college jerseys fit so differently to ours. I explained that while we get sizes (s,m,L,XL etc) they get custom fitted stuff. It's amazing how much gear some of our players buy simply for look including one guy who has started wearing a cold gear face mask even though we play in summer. He thinks it looks cool, the rest of the league is laughing at him

there was an article in USA Today about D 1 Athletic directors dropping down to division 3 because they are tired of the arms race attitude that has taken over at the FBS level.
in 2000 texas was spending 42 million on athletics now it is spending 133 millino. oklahoma 24 million in 2000 94 million in 2012.
to keep up with this the teams have to find teams willing to play throw away games. Nebraska for example needs a 7th home game so they throw a half a mil at idaho st a FCS team. Florida paid bowling green state 1.2 m this year to come to florida.
i figure college football has 3 to 5 years adn the bubble will burst.

I think it depends on the type of program you have. If you are one of the "new wave" guys that go shotgun, no huddle, basketball on grass and plays 100, 7 on 7 games a summer then I think crazy uniforms would be a great choice.
If you are a hard-nosed, tough, no nonsense program then a simpler look might fit what you are trying to teach the kids.
Its all personal choice. The kids do like them. That is big in our area because we have a huge problem with players transfering schools. You almost have to compete to keep kids in your program.

I'm a moderate as usual: played 1 7on7, tried to go i-formation option and wound up in the gun running power, trap and dive. We wear white on white on white but there's a slight modern twist to our helmets and jerseys.
I'm in the middle on flash vs tradition, in all aspects. My AC is all flash.

Wonder how long it will take for the recruiting pitch to be "We don't dress you like a clown, we have two uniforms. Home and Away. That's it"

struck a nerve??? Well, come on now, surely you've seen more than one private buy a used Mustang for 24,000 and 14% financing, or a 2Lt buy a $5,000 watch. There's no shortage of stupid people.

Since my arrival at my school, I have replaced the uniforms that were being used... Our school colors are: 1) Kelly Green 2) White The uniforms being used here before me were: Black Hunter Green Orange Last year I bought home jerseys which are COMPLETELY PLAIN: 1) Kelly Green Top with white cuffs and collar. Numbers are white tackle-twill with grey stitching. "Hillcrest" above the number in white 2) Kelly Green Pants... plain This year I bought away jerseys which are COMPLETELY PLAIN: 1) White Top with kelly green cuffs and collar. Numbers are kelly green tackle-twill with grey stitching. "Hillcrest" above the number in Kelly Helmets are now white with the triple stripe down the middle. Kelly green on the outside 2, grey on the inside one. Decals are a kelly green circle with a husky in the center. Created them on EAsports... my username is cqmiller on there as well but here is a link to them: www.easports.com/teambuilder#/school/2260347506:1333425506I love our white-on-white-on-white combo on the road. The kids have mixed and matched the green and white pants and shirts. I don't see any issues with it. I don't understand how a high school has the budget to have that many uniforms, or storage space, or the ability to track that much gear on top of what they already do.

Most high schools won't have the money to have some kind of alternate uniform. Personally, I like some type of middle road between modern and traditional uniforms. I'm not all-in on the Penn State look or the Oregon look.
I like the idea of having a home and away jersey with two different pants to give you multiple uniform combinations. Although you have to front the money to do this, the pants will last longer since you aren't using them that often.
On a different note, I've never understood why people don't like names on the back of uniforms because they think it shows individualism. Doesn't a number differentiate every player and make him an individual anyway? For whatever reason, I feel like it makes the uniform look more professional and I think the kids take a great sense of pride in it. We do it on our home jerseys for our Varsity team.

Numbers are required, names are not. I would guess that is the logic behind it.

I haven't seen any of this at the high school level around here. I'd say only 20-25% of teams here have a logo on their helmet. Our uniforms have been virtually the same since the the program started in the early 1900's (obviously we get newer style fitting uniforms every 5 years or so). We have a lot of tradtion at our school. Our uni's are pretty much identical to penn state. The only modernizing we did around here was add a second color pant to give us a little variety. We now have Navy Blue pants to go along with our traditional white pants.

We have black jerseys and white jerseys
Pants we have black, white, and gold
Black at home and white away obviously
But we will mix up the pant color combinations
We will wear all black or sometimes black ad gold at home
Away we have worn all 3 pants combinations with our white jerseys
My goal is to get gold jerseys for an all gold look for our rivalry game... Won't happen this year but it would be sweet for next year

Gotta love schools that have alternate jerseys with colors not even in the school colors-like a beige uni w/beige pants & the school colors are black and red....give me Alabama, Southern Cal or old school Florida w/ the cartoon writing. And I'm only 30
