I've never had a kid's helmet come off in a game that I can remember for over 30 years. But, since the new rule, guess what happened...yep. 1st drive, about the 3rd play, my Center comes off the field, seems the Nose decided to snatch the helmet off my Center.
Wow, now not only do we have a new rule to solve a problem I've NEVER had, NOW the defense had figured out a way to remove certain players.
We went nuts, the refs tooh notice and it didn't happen again. But, now that people know this can happen, you might see more of this going on. Snatching off someone's helmet (which isn't easy to by BTW) so they have to come out.

I don't know if it was by the defense's design, but my halfback had to sit out a play Thursday for this. First time in my admittedly short career.

It's not just the rule I think. We ordered all new helmets this year for the varsity, and screws, snaps, and little interior pieces are always popping off. Facemasks are always becoming loose. We fix the helmets, the next day, they're loose again, then we repeat the process. The helmets look awesome, but I've probably spent more time fixing helmets than I have running drills this year.

First game, first drive, off comes my stud RB's helmet. Other team helped him with that. Bizarre.

Haven't had this problem yet, but are refs missing this call? I was under the impression that if the helmet came off as a result of a defender pulling it off they didn't have to leave the field?

Only if they notice, and only if it's a penalty.
I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if the helmets had a built-in tendency to pop off or have the straps release rather than deathgrip your head under large stresses. Sort of like crumpling bumpers on cars.

Obvious question, is the helmet fitted correctly?
If a kid can slide the helmet off with 1 hand, it is too loose. It should be a pain to get off.
Next, is the chin strap adjusted properly? The strap should make the jaw clench shut.
Also the newer helmets have a groove for where the chin strap rides on the helmet.
Helmets are not made for comfort, but for protection.

Horrendous problem with our new helmets last week....well over ten incidents of "popped off " helmets. Maybe 3-4 were forced by the other team but some must have been ill fitting.

I honestly believe helmets pop off because of the hard cup chin straps. The inside of the hard cup chin straps are lined with a pad that gets slick with sweat. The slickness coupled with the strap being a little loose leads to the helmet popping off. IMO the leather chin straps that come with the helmet are way better than any store bought chin strap. Unfortunately, the kids think the hard cup chin straps that say Nike or Under Armor on them look way cooler. I tell all of my kids to wear the chin straps that come with the helmet. But then again, I am an OL coach that knows nothing about looking cool.

knash,
I agree with you. The hard shelled ones, especially adams, are terrible about coming off. I wish we didn't have any of these.
