Already tried that. Kid knows the hc won't get rid of or bench him so he really doesn't give a $h/t what you do to him. He will go and do them but it will be so slow that it will just be getting him out of my hair for a bit rather than teaching him anything. Also I have to get him ready for the game best I can because he will be starting Friday no matter how big of an whole he is I use the whole team or whatever unit I have, not just one kid. Everyone has to do perfect down ups or we don't stop. Appreciate the feedback but I will never do this for one kid being an ass. I have zero trouble out of the other kids and they work hard. And I know there are coaches out there that would say "well it's a team sport" and I agree but you should never punish a kid for doing the right thing. Think about it if he is getting the job done and trying his best and still getting punished then he gets the same f'it attitude the turd has because why not. He is being punished anyway

I have already come to terms with that, I'm not even looking for suggestions on what to do anymore really. Realized that everyone pretty much has the same opinion as I do or no new ideas for me to try so I kinda gave up on the problem and handle it the way I have been. Really just enjoying reading what other people would do in this situation. Maybe it will help out a struggling asst. one day with a header like mine

He is being punished anyway It sounds mean, but it's not like I don't give the team a chance to help out. Like I said, I explain what is expect of them once, and if I don't get it we do up downs. I fully expect the team to get the kid in gear for me. I love up downs too because if the kid is lazy or not trying, it shows. Then we get to do more. So I again state why we're doing more, and eventually it's a chorus of complaints, but the complaints aren't at me. They're at the kid. Discipline isn't something you do to someone.

I understand what you're saying I just don't agree with it. Another point to make is that now you don't have anybody getting reps. And honestly this kid doesn't give a crap whether the other kids are doing up downs because of him. I don't know where you coach and if that's how you run things that's great but I'm just saying that would never go down in my program. Of course if it were my program we wouldn't be having this discussion.

That's alright. Different philosophies then. I hope this kid turns around.

And now for an update. Thought I finally straightened the kid out but last week he blew up and cussed me out. I sent his sorry a$$ to the locker room and to turn his stuff in. I figured that would be it for that kid but the header just suspended him for a game. Not complaining about that just setting up the best part. 1) I feel like he dodged a bullet not getting thrown off and most kids would thank their lucky stars they were still playing. 2) that turds ego is so big that he went to the opposing coaches and tried to give them our game plan for the week. I couldn't believe it has anybody ever heard or lived this. I can't even look at the kid I'm so mad. Not that what he did remotely screwed us but that he wanted us to lose so he would look better!

I always tell my kids the same thing; "I will explain and correct a technique a thousand times but I imagine you'll quit after the fifth time because you won't be playing much."

He gave your opponent your game plan and your HC STILL wont fire him? That is just flat out gutless.

He cussed you, tried to give the opponent the playbook and is STILL on the team? In my assistant days, I once had a head coach who put up with disrespect, laziness, you name it, from the kids. It was his team, his problem. I didn't put up with it. When it finally came down to one disrespecting me and the head coach not wanting to do anything to the kid because he felt he needed him, I had a private meeting with the head coach and explained that either the kid would be punished or I would not coach. It wasn't a threat, just an explanation of why the kid had to be punished and why I couldn't continue on if he wasn't. He punished the kid. You have to decide where you will draw the line.

I have been at that point. I'm between a rock and a hard place though because I just don't want to make threat I can't back up. I really love the other kids on the team minus maybe a couple other and don't want to quit on them. I just decided that I'm switching the position I coach away from the kid so the majority of my time isn't spent with him. However, he may actually be booted this time. We will see

I hear you. We have about 5 seniors this year with the same attitude. Staff has been together for about 12 years and won district championships as well as state championships. When this group came in we have struggled the last two years. I am the DC and am starting 5 sophs and a freshman. Wont deal with the Senior crap anymore. BTW they were undefeated on the 8th grade team so the parents of the seniors are after are jobs now because we can't win games anymore..... I just keep coaching the kids that can and will do the job. The rest can graduate today ......can't fix what they wont do!
Just keep chopping!

The greatest thing that is coming from the turd and the other crappy seniors is the jrs see how it is effecting practices which is causing for bad performances on Friday. They are very focused and are looking forward to getting rid of these kids also. And hc kept the kid on but now I know that he is leaving after this year. Basically he has thrown in the towel and doesn't care anymore. Sucks for me this year but looking towards the future.
