The Rainbow Warriors stole the HAKA from the ALL Blacks rugby team out of New Zealand.
as for intimidation I believe in winning the game not the warmup. Like I have said before, we run off the bus at 7:20 for a 7:30 kickoff. We warmup in our own environment. It is not uncommon for the fan buses to fallow us to our games. now our longest ride is 40 minutes.

I always felt that if our kids spent enough time in the weight room they would be intimidating enough when they come out for pre game warm ups.

IMO, if we've done our job right our kids should look at a Haka and think, "Hey, that's pretty cool" and go about their business.

I love that the all blacks still use the haka. I got to watch one of the nz first grade rugby sides do it here from right on the sidelines. First- I was terrified. mostly for the intensity that they had in it. that said if I had of been going out on the field it would of fired me up more. Just FYI about the hakka though, its more like a blessing then an intimidation stunt. My wife spent a bit of time over there and it is one of the few countries in the world that really embraces the native culture. The idea of teams without that heritage and culture doesn't intimidate me but just pisses me off.
Still, watching a team of absolute monsters do it properly is a scary sight

We have warmed up away from the field before so the other team never saw us until we came out for the game. It was more so out kids would focus better than anything. I well known coach here did all kids of things. Warm up other places. Charge the 50 and let his players bark and just dog cuss you.

Just as update to this, we had our first pre-season game on Aug. 19. (15-16 year olds at the community level here in Canada.) One of our keen young assistants does a great job getting kids revved up pre-game, and we had one of the loudest, most impressive circles of chanting and booyas than we have had around our club for a long time. Well, you can guess the rest - we went out in the first quarter and stunk it up, going down 6-0. Now, we eventually got our act together and won 34-12, but I was amused yet again at the complete disconnect between an impressive pre-game ritual, and an impressive start to the game...

I steal this story from a buddy of mine but one of my favorites.... He's the assistant at a midlevel program, they are going to play a relative powerhouse school that has a reputation for being somewhat ghetto. As they are walking out for pre-game warmups a JV assistant coach for the other team is standing just to the side of the tunnel. Apparently this guy is about 6'6" and over 3 bills (a lot of muscle too). As they approach he starts yelling at the top of his lungs "Hey MuthaF#@*ers are you ready for the thunder? Im talking to you bi@#*es are you ready for this....."and so on. According to him most of the kids dang near peed themselves; one of them went up to him and asked, "Uhhh, coach can he be talking to us like that?" They got crushed, although I doubt it would have mattered. Intimidation is just like trash talk, it rarely has any impact on the game, and usually is done more to amp up the person doing it. Ummmm, I ain't 6'6 and 3 bills and me might be able to whup my arse good; but if he wants to talk to MY kids that way we are fo' sho' gonna find out.

When they start putting points on the board for pre-game, I'll start worrying about it.
