Is anyone going away from the standard whole team warm up and splitting into positions and warming up that way? If so, what are some things that you are doing to warm up your different positions?

We did this in college but we didn't have position-specific warmups. Every one did the same warmup but just at their own pace. I played LB so we would get through it quickly so we could start our drills earlier than everyone else.

I have seen a college team at spring practice doing position specific drills along with dynamic. Running backs were carrying a ball for example. They also worked some 3/4 speed drops and reactions into LB and DB drills, with a ball thrown by the coach.

First year as head coach, but here is how we are doing it... Linemen and linebackers run the bags, getting loose through bags, DB's do cone drills at a slower speed to get loosened up. Leads right into indvidual drill. We start every practice with defense first. We play both ways. Keeps up tempo practice and they are loose.

I was recently at a school where we did dynamic as a team, and then took about 5 minutes to do position specific static stuff (butt stretches, butterflies, lower backs, etc)
During this time each position coach would breakdown specific pre practice info for his group. I think it would be difficult to do this for dynamic stuff because some groups (OL) are so much larger that others (TEs) and would take longer to get done

The way I approach warm up is, What are we trying to accomplish? Are there certain muscles that need to get loose or injuries that we see as a trend? Our goal is to take 5-6 minutes of activity to loosen up the body. Let's do it through active movement, that gets us off on a high tempo. Stretching just kills the tempo for practice and sets a slow pace in my opinion.

We did position specific warm ups similar to Mumme and UK stuff. I really liked it and it served a great purpose. Some of my leaders came to me before the after the second season and asked to warm up together because they thought it would help us come together more and we switched and haven't gone back. One reason we haven't gone back is because some of our assistant coaches work at the MS and sometimes they get there as we are finishing the warm ups. Faculty meetings! Position specific warm ups finished 7-4 as a first year head coach from 1-9. Next year 6-5 tougher schedule. Switched to team warm ups 11-1. I think we would have been 11-1 either way but it did seem to bring us together more. I would go back to it if we could.

We dynamic warm up as a team, then break down into D positions, runs some position specific warm up/drills, then some team D. Go to individual O (we play both ways) then team O.
