or Work Hard and Not Working Hard
What makes your team win? Really. Some people might think a lot of money in your program should make you win. Some people get pissed because they say if they had money in there program they'd win.
Some people flat don't work hard and you know who they are because you squash them.
I think even a team that doesn't have a bunch of money in their program can still win.
Also....does having more college bound players on your team make you win more games? Do you get the "well they have so many guys college they should be winning"?
Back to the original question... WHAT MAKES YOUR TEAM WIN?

Money helps to a certain extent and within limits. If a school doesn't provide money for research and development (clinics, visits, books, etc.), weight room equipment, or for enough coaches they're at a disadvantage. This is, of course, all relative to what your opponents have. After that, though, I think the bells and whistles are nice but unnecessary. Remember the thread about some of the fabulous stadiums in Texas? Nothing against them-more power to them- but I'm sure that there some very good programs that do not have a Hall of Fame in their field house. A team that consistently has D.1 talent and whose coaches have had enough time to get their program in place probably should be successful. If there's talent and coaching the team should be good. I don't mean that they should win states every year but they should win consistently.

A coach who I have a great deal of respect for once offered his opinion on the subject. He's been coaching in HS for as long as anyone can rember, around 30+ years and has been part of many many great teams. He always said: It's High School football it dosent reallymatter what you have but who you have out there. I agree. I'd rather have great athletes than great facilities any day.

Butte High in Montana has won 27 state titles in their history and they won almost every one of those titles playing on a dirt field with kids who grew up poor. Most the city which was about 100,000 at one point, worked for the mining company. There were labor strikes often, the ambulances ran up the hill a couple times a day for accidents, the pay was awful, and Butte was a tough, tough town. It was where Bernie Bierman first coached and where Evel Knievel grew up. Also produced Sonny Lubick, Jim Sweeney, Mick Dennehy. The town sent more Irish born men to WWI than Boston did. This was a tough, tough place to grow up.
When the mining of copper slowed (including what was underneath the amusement park--so tore it apart), they up and moved and left thousands of people with no work and training to only do one thing--work in the mine.
But in all that time they grew tough kids, tough people with amazing character, and an incredible amount of pride in their team and their town. In the 60s it wasn't unheard of for 10,000 to show up to a game between Butte High and Butte Central.
So the money is nice, great facilities are nice, but I would rather have a bunch of kids with a working-class background and strong character. When that kid is hurt, crumpled up in a heap, and bleeding, he knows it's the same pain his dad went through every day in the mine.

HS Football Success = Tough Parents + Supportive Community
All the rest is just icing on the cake.
