any of you have players just tank it mentally for a stretch? our game yesterday really showed what happens when kids forget that football doesnt come with a reset button or a cheat code...we tanked it.

Funny that you mention the restart button, I've used that to compare our team this year to last years, we seem to have kids this year with that are used to things being handed to them with a silver spoon and if something goes wrong, they just hit the restart button where as last years kids would run through walls because they liked the contact.

We had quite a few like that, esp between 0-2 and 0-4 the bye week helped, but it was hard to keep them going. how many times do you have to point out the jogging on film? had an assistant say late at night just us coaches, "kind of hard to win with 5 football players and 35 cheerleaders" kinda summed up our season.

One of my favorite expressions is "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink"
We've had very good teams and mediocre teams and bad teams over the last 13 years. We coach just as hard every day, and hold people accountable for their performance. If you have no talent and/or a fractured group with a bad attidude, doesn't necessarily mean you're "coaching it or allowing it." I've seen a lot of very good coaching staffs have tough years every now and then. We never lose respect for them, however, thinking that they're "coaching or allowing" laziness and lack of aggression.
Horsecrap.

I take full responsibility for my qb fumbling DARNED NEAR EVERY TIME HE GETS HIT. so, in practice yesterday we called a bunch of boots, waggles, keepers and he fumbled on a bunch of them. we work hard to fix the problem areas...so hard we got the kid injured. also, I take full responsibility for kids RUNNING SCREEN RIGHT when I called SCREEN LEFT...so in practice we worked on the difference between left and right with our EIGHTH GRADE running backs. I brought up the point that we hadnt added any new plays for over 5 weeks and somehow our stud fullback who hadnt screwed up a single play all year managed to screw up 4 times in a single game. He simply had an off day. Its not like he doesnt know his plays, he simply wasnt focused and more than likey had his bell rung in a very physical game. I would imagine hes had several hundred reps at each of our plays...and we dont have many. his assignments couldnt get any easier... but yes, i am always the one who takes responsibility, perhaps he just needs several THOUSAND reps at each play lol.

Just having a little fun! actually, youd be amazed, we actually had a touchdown pass this season...we have had two different qbs alternating each game and yes, we have a few completed passes. I am confident that both boys are the most prepared qbs EVER to come from the ms level. We will see I guess. The one boy is truly physically gifted, strong, fast, good arm, nice touch, learning to be a leader...for some reason however, fumblitis bug has gotten to him. The other boy has a cast on his arm and has trouble with the snaps..but hes very poised for a 7th grader.
