Has anyone got a copy of Hoover High School's playbook? My kids love watching this show. They always come into the office and draw up the plays this school use. I saw one episode where they played Tim Tebow's squad, Hoover looked like a spread team. Anyone know what they do and who they got it from? The coach looks like he has been around! I'd like to hear him speak at a clinic.

Nothing really special about what they do. The best schools to look at are ones with average athletes that excel in their system.

They run the Tony Franklin System. They used to fly to UK back when Franklin was there and started learning it there. You can find a 2001 playbook on here.

I just watched the show for the first time today. Really don't like Propst, to be honest. I found that he talked way too much about the future and not enough about taking care of business this week/this game. There was a clip where the team went into the locker room during a close game and he says something along the lines of "we ain't gonna win next week playing like this." I just greatly dislike that type of thinking.

I'd been telling myself for some time that I'd rent it and watch and actually made it through 5 episodes last night.
I'm not judging Coach Propst for how he does things, but I think that he fits a coaches stereotype that a great number of people already believe we fit. Some of the comments made to parents, players, etc. seem to fit that stereotype of the yelling, screaming, me, me, coach.
In the one scene, though, a senior player knows what kind of session they're in for and says, "I can take the physical and emotional stuff we're going to get today, but some guys will wonder why they're out here." That made sense--we know which kids we can get after, and that summed it up.
I think as coaches we watch this show and automatically judge everything we see--we evaluate how good their team looks, how they coach, how they act, heck I even kind of looked at what kind of coaching gear they wore. Most people who watch that show (including the Hoover team itself) won't watch that show in that manner.
That said, the only thing that bothered me a lot was the way he held scholarships over their head and said that HE could control scholarships and based on how they played the last week he wasn't going to send ANY films out. Fine to not recommend a kid if you don't think he can play, and I'm sure if a college coach called and asked he'd send it, but you put it into a kid's head that the only way he can play in college isn't in how he plays, but if the coach is willing to send the film. When he tells the kids, "guess who controls that? Ding. It's me." that was a little frustrating.
Still, not a bad little series to watch if you don't mind wading through powder puff game highlights, etc.

Anyone happen to have the Vestavia-Hoover playoff game on tape or DVD? And, if so, can I negotiate a trade or purchase? Highlights of this game aired in last night's episode and it seemed like a truely great game plus I would like to see Hoover's entire offense in action, not just the MTV highlights. Thanks in advance.

I have seen Probst talk at the Nike COY in CT this year, I thought he was great. At the same clinic I saw Urban Meyer and Les Miles and I thought he was just as good as they were. He is definately cocky and I could see why people do not like him, but listening to him speak he know alot about the game and is very willing to share. He gave us his number and will get you copies of cutups and things like that. It is not a direct line it is a machine you need to leave your info and things like that on.

Coach, again the MTV highlights are very limited, but it looks to me like they don't run anything too fancy, they rely on the fact that their johnnies and joes are better than the other guys. Would this be accurate? I really don't know; that's why I'm anxious to see some real footage of them.

If you want real hoover footage, I have the Hoover vs JT Curtis game on DVD. If you want it send me a tradelist to theyashin03@yahoo.com or PM me on here. It was the first game of the year and Curtis won, but hoover's offense still wasn't bad. If you have nothing to trade for $3, (to cover shipping costs) I'll send it to you. PM me and we'll work it out. I don't like charging for stuff, but I've sent enough free stuff out and it adds up after a while so I figure for basic DVD, bubble mailer and postage $3 is fair.

I don't know what is more obnoxious.......the manufactured drama from MTV's production or the prima-donna attitudes of the teenagers-in-front-of-cameras on that show. Propst wins, that's all that matters.

I think what got this year's Hoover team is that it seems like the players got a little (okay, a lot) full of themselves. That being said, they did still only lose twice and get second place. And, maybe some of the arrogant statements were made for the camera's benefit.
Added thought--I really didn't think that Vestavia team was near as dirty as the Hoover staff made them out to be. There's nothing illegal about that backside cutting techinique is there?

It looked like they were cutting LB's- which is illegal under NFHS rules- but it's hard to tell what was happening from the small clips they show..
It looks like Propst has changed from the 1st season- the 1st season he was downright obnoxious to the players.. This season he looks like he's gone out of his way to be portrayed as a coach who cares about his players..

I'd agree with that. I saw the Lb being cut a few times by the FB in the first game. I just didn't notice it in the playoff game. And, I agree with your assessment of Propst as well.

MTV had one clip they showed where a defensive player was engaged with a blocker and a second blocker came in to cut him. I'm pretty sure that is illegal in ANY league.

What about Vestavia spreading manure under Hoover's bleachers the year before? That's sick - I take it those two schools don't like each other much!!!
Another thought is how does Probst get away with speaking at clinics on his Air Raid offense when Franklin has everybody sign a confidentiality agreement? Just curious...

In another MTV idea, they could film me and my new squad. It would be a combo of 2 a days and Juvies. LOL Kidding of course.

Minus the razor wire and fences and having to carry a gun as the coach, yes.

I don't care for many of the things that have been said and done on that show. However, I do wonder how much of it is being done "for the camera"?
