I was cleaning out the equipment room when I first got to a school in 98 and found an oral screw. Not a joke. Anyone know what that is? It's te only time I've ever seen one.

Apparently those were standard first aid equipment back when players were regularly knocked unconscious and swallowed their own tongue while seizing.

Here is a pair of headsets we found cleaning. Can't imagine running down the sidelines with that antenna sticking up way over my head. I found an old set of Porta Phones, where you have to physically run the cord up to the press box. 2 giant spools of cable. Can't imagine using those. Lots of stuff to get rid of.

Yash, I declare, you young'uns don't know nothin' ;D
Back in the early 80, if you had those wired headsets, you were eatin' high on the hog. Nothing to it, just have the JV coaches run the lines and put 'em on your head.
Wired headsets were used in college until just a few years ago. Well, it certainly "FEELS" like it was just a few years ago. The NFL and college guys would have an assistant follow along behind them holding the extra line. Of course, we had to do our own line though.

We didn't have wireless phones until 2002. Our home field had a box on our sideline so we didn't have to run cables all the way up to the press box. Coaches on the sidelines plugged in. On the road I remember running those spools of wire up the pressbox.

We played a team that had conduits installed under the field and run over to the pressbox underground. Real neighbourly of them, they even set it up on the visitors side and lent us some headsets. Didn't stop us from getting killed, though.

I have a photo from the newspaper of my HC when I was in high school wearing headsets with an antenna that looks long enough to talk to God. In the photo he is delivering some rather strong constructive criticism. How that antenna didn't poke one of us in the face I'll never know.
