My new team is in need of leadership material. Does anyone have a source, video, course, magic pixie dust...anything?
Great bunch of kids, but lack of understanding leadership is a big problem. I need to get them going in the right direction and don't have a resource for it.
Thanks guys, OJW

OJW, I don't have any such sources.
I do give our kids "motivational" handouts, post some on bulletin board, have a "Quote for the Day" I discuss with them during Team Comment before each practice.
The handouts are poems, quotes from successful athletes or coaches, passages from books - anything I find that I think will be meaningful.
Kind of like Jim Tressel's Winners' Manual one page at a time.
The subjects include Commitment, Work ethic, Competitiveness, Winning-Success, Cooperation-Teamwork. Not necessarily leadership per se but it's in there.
The next time I see them (weight room this time of year for example) I reinforce the message by summarizing it or may even ask them questions to see what they got from it.
In the past I sent some of our Seniors who wanted to be captains to our Football coaches' association Leadership Conference but didn't see much change after they got back.
Two years ago I took over a struggling program and our PE teacher-girls' basketball coach asked, "Who's going to be your leaders this year?"
I answered, "ME!!"

The Jensen Team-Leaders book is great. Perfect to spend a week on each chapter throughout the summer.

Outlaw Ive been researching this a bit myself. Something for my son to read. I found a book Im going to buy it's called "do hard things, teenage rebellion against low expectations" It's basically about not being lazy, making a difference in your community. Don't be the typical teenager. Hope that helps.

360 degree Leader by John Maxwell. Great book about leading from wherever you are at in an organization.

The cost is high, we were able to get a donor to purchase it for our players. Dr. Tim Elmores Habitudes is awesome. Several coaches partnered up with a group such as sophs, jrs, and srs and did leadership training in the am.
