Don't forget about Ursuline in Youngstown as well they seem to rack up the titles year after year. Amazing how those two schools seem to do it year in and year out

Belle Glades has had 31(or more, don't know about the last couple of years)players make it to the NFL. Pahokee won 5 state titles in 6 years from 2003 to 2008 with its number 1 alum being Anquan Boldin. Trinity Christian is another Florida small school power house.

You are right wingt, it is amazing how those guys can field such tough teams year in and year out...
My money is on the MAC conference, all division 5 and 6 schools. 6 teams out of that conference have won a state championship and most have won multiple. The ones that have not won a championship are often beat by a team from the conference
One of the best high school football games I have ever seen was a state championship game when Coldwater from the MAC beat Mooney who had run roughshod though the whole state that year.

Williamstown (421 students 9-12) has been a playoff staple in West Virginia for years. They also hold a state record for consecutive regular season wins. I last remember it standing at 57 games.

To find the best small school just look at the MAC in West Ohio. Just a bunch of homegrown tough ball players. Not recruited out of near by big cities (because there are no big cities). You hear the same last names every year.

Over half the HS in our state have enrollment under 700 so that may be too broad a sample size. Mendon (2012 enrollment = 216) has won 11 state Football championships. That's who I think of for "small school Football." I agree 100%... there are other good small schools that other coaches have listed in MI... but Mendon is the best... and my AD wont let me play them... I just want a shot...

Some more Michigan Programs:
North Dickinson Ishpeming Menominee (Might be over 700...) Calumet Lake Linden West Iron County Kingsford (Over 700 I think) Iron Mountain
A lot of quality programs that get overlooked because they are small U.P. schools. I love U.P. football!

Kingsford is 559, Meno 539.
They don't get overlooked by people who really know HS Football in Michigan.
However OP asked for schools who are "contenders year in and year out."
Meno, Ishpeming, Negaunee, CFFP only ones to be in state finals last decade.

In Alabama, like the other posters mentioned, 700 would get up into the higher classifications. In terms of really small 1A-2A programs, I think Sweetwater, Brantley, Leroy would probably be the standard for success. A few others have claims as well.

In North Dakota 700 students puts you in the largest classification. A town that I admire and would not consider small with 119 high school enrolment is Napoleon high school, they are defending state champs they have won 3 in school history and a couple runner ups but they are tough year in and year out they are physical and are perennial playoff contenders. Napoleon is a nice place, very tough in 9 man football and wrestling year in and year out. Wydmere-Lidgerwood, Hillsboro, and Divide County are other 9 man teams that are tough year in and year out. The best small school program in the state is Velva. They have won 6 of the last 10 Class A titles.

In Kansas. 6A is the largest, 2A-1A the smallest 11-man division, with to classes of 8-man football as well. 700 students and smaller is the bottom half of 5A on down...
2A-1A Smith Center Pittsburg-Colgan (private school, bump up to 3A next year) 3A Conway Springs Silver Lake 4A Topeka-Hayden (private school) Holton

In AZ, there is no question. Lakeside Blue Ridge has dominated small ball for over the last two decades. 9 State Titles and 13 title game appearances in the last 19 years. They are a Division 4 team with around 700 students, so not the smallest division, but the division is almost all rural small towns.

Zeeland West's enrollment is 791.
You must be thinking of Blissfield for Baseball. In Football they've only made it out of District once and about a decade ago had a 33-game losing streak.
