We're looking at a major pruchase of helmets this year and am curious what your thoughts are between the Riddell Speed and the Schutt XP.
I've done quite a bit of research and of course the reps are both going to pump up thiers and put down the other. I hae sample of both and get mixed results when our players try them on.
I'd like to here from those that have experience with them. What good and hte bad are you finding? Any feedback will be helpful.

My kids like the riddell revos better than Schutt. We got a few schutt to try them and the kids all switched back to revo's and the schutt became our spares. Personally, I feel that I can fit more kids in revos (inflatable ear pads helps to fit and not have to have a bunch of them)so financially it is more cost effective. I seem in the last few years to have parents buying kids top line helmets, probably because of all the concussion stuff. I've got no problem with that.

We use mostly Riddell but have some Schutt. Our kids seem to like Riddell better and we use Riddell for reconditioning. They seem to reject more Schutt than Riddell for some reason. We have a few kids that Schutt fits better so we keep some around.

We've used Riddle Revolutions and some Speeds. If a player wanted a Schutt they would have a doctors note stating why and had to purchase the helmet on their own. Some parents read the test results ect. The Riddle products have been excellent.

What about in the heat? The Riddell Speed has a cloth material for lining and I am curious about how it breathes. Between the 2, it seems like the Schutt would be a better in the heat and seems to be lighter. Feedback?

Our kids have never complained about he riddle revo's. All the kids seem to like em and they are light. I the cloth lining works fine. We have our whole in in the revo's. Good stuff

We have 20 Schutt DNA's and 50 Riddell Revos. I find the DNA's have no break in period. The kids keep the helmet on the whole practise. As compared to the Revs which leaves the players forehead red because they are brand new.
However I do like the Revs for the price, the protection of the jaw, definititly the inflatable ear pad is great. No mixing and matching ear pads, it fits kids of various face sizes. Great for program building.
If I coached in the south with all that humidity I might tend to lean towards the Schutt. I do like the technology in the helmet with the TPU cushioning.
We are a Canadian team so its cooler in the fall. I will probably be buying a dozen Revs or Speeds. This is due to the jaw protection, ear pads, and team coloured chin strap. Money is a big factor for us. Hope this helps..

Have a mixture of both. Kids seems to like the Riddells better. Replacement parts for the Riddells are a little cheaper.

I would go with the Riddell's just to avoid the hell of that bin full of cheek pads. That has got to be the biggest equipment related PITA. I can't say enough about how much I abhor it.

We have switched completely to the Riddells and tossed our schutts due to the fact that the Riddels have a higher concussion rating ad our superintendent likes their protection values.

We got rid of the riddell helmets and are completely sold on the Schutt. They are both good helmets but we got tired of spending so much time fixing the riddell revo. That little funky looking square piece that holds the face mask on on the sides. Wears me out. When something breaks because you tighten it too much, I'm bound to get ticked off. Happened in a game and I vowed not to buy another revo until they fixed that. It's still there and nearly 70 helmets later I'm still buying Schutt.

I like both the Riddel Speed and the Schutt...we have mostly DNA's. My biggest issue with each is the specialty parts for each. The quick release attachment for the Speed gets on my nerves. It has to be in there just right or the 1st hit and it is gone. I much prefer screws and t-nuts.

I personally have never liked the revo's. If I had my way I would go entirely with DNA's but not every kids head fits in a DNA and not every kids head fits in Revo's. We have both but are primarily revos.

I know a lot of our kids like the Schutt Air XP, they think its comfortable and you can use a traditional facemask with it.

I just don't see significant advantages or differences that justify the price. I have always trusted Riddell, our kids like Revolutions, and we have not had concussion issues since adopting them (didn't really before either, though).

I will let you know how it works after this next season. Our AD bought one for a student that will be playing 8th grade ball next season that needs one.

We are all Revos and Revo Speeds. If kids want to use a DNA or Xenith, they buy their own.

We have a good mix of Riddell Speeds and Revolutions as well as Schutt DNAs. We also just purchased about 8 Schutt Ion 4Ds.
I have never been around the Xenith helmets.
Which one is better? I don't know if there is a good answer to that. Many of the "tests" used to see which helmet is safer are very flawed. But, if you think the helmet you are buying covers your butt better, then by all means go with that one.
It took me awhile to get used to the look of these newer helmets. For years, I was sold on the old-style look. Now that I've seen so many untraditional looks, it's just becoming the norm.
Our kids love the Speeds, but we also had more concussions last season than ever and every kid that was concussed wore a Speed.

Just because of personal observations I'll only buy riddell from now on...
Had a kid as a jr. Get a nasty concusion. Out for 6 weeks. Dr. Told him one more bad one and he is done for life. Came back as a sr. Made sure the kid got a new speed helmet that year The kid gets ear holed on the sideline right in front of me. Nasty hit to say the least! First thought in my head was oh no this kid is done for the year! He jumps up and plays on. After the game I asked him about the hit. His exact response to me was "coach he hit me so hard I thought I was going to do a flip... Didn't hurt at all though". From that point on I was sold. I also like that they fit all the kids heads. I haven't run into a head that with the air technology in the helmet we couldn't fit.
One downside... Those cloth inner liners get pretty nasty. Make sure the kids know they can and should wash them periodically!

the X2 is $200. How much are the revo speed, and dna Last price I saw (about a year ago) for Xenith was closer to $250. We get our Revolutions including "high gloss" paint for $169.50, buy six-get one free.

We bought 3 zenith helmets and they are hanging up in the equipment room. The kids don't like them. They say that they feel fine to wear but not to practice. It's a shame because they are expensive. We just gave out equip for spring and no one wants them.
