We are an I formation/1 Back Zone offense. This fall, we had the conference QB of the year. We ran some optioin with him because he was an exceptioin athlete and found that it was the one thing that really put a lot of pressure on the defense. We would run our zone plays for 4-5 yards, but the optiion was our big play package. This year, our QB will be very immobile and the option would not be a good route for us to go. My question is, what can we add to help stress the defense. Something with big play potential that we know they will have to spend practice time on.

Here's my 2 cents; always have an answer to rthe coverages the defense throws at you. Here's how I would attack a defense from a Pro Set with I backs.
1. Establish a quick passing game; outs, hitches, slants, and arrows. Force the defense to defend the flats against you by moving into a Cover 2. This would be very effective from the double backs.
2. Come back with your ground game- pound it an them until the DC gets impatient and loads up the box again. Get them into man-man situations (hit slants all day long against this- al least one of 'em will go for big yardage) and Cover 3 (hitches and arrows; the WR is one broken tackle away from big yards)

formations and motions........simple gimmicks that can alter "rules" for defensive coverages and alignments. ...and just run your regular plays off it.

i have found that the option has alot less to do with how fast your QB is and alot more to do with how well he makes his reads. i have seen alot of very gifted "big, slow" option qbs, turn thet ball upfield and then become like a fullback trucking down the field, breaking tackles and what not. If he can make the reads, let him go !!

We are an 8-man front; a few teams in our league run the midline without the read. Believe me, it stresses the defense. Out of the I, the QB will fake the ball to the FB right up the middle (midline route). If the play is going to the right and to a SE, the right guard and tackle will block like an isolation(fan block vs a 1 and a 5) while the TB is the lead blocker throught the hole. If the play is going to a TE side, the OT will fan on our 7 tech wil the TE folds underneath and is the lead blocker. You can also run this play out of a 1-back formation, but the RB's must be close enough to fold undeneath the OT to be the lead blocker for the QB. Your QB doesn't need to be Michael Vick.

We are an I formation/1 Back Zone offense. [SNIP] My question is, what can we add to help stress the defense. Something with big play potential that we know they will have to spend practice time on. Fly and Rocket sweep series from one back looks...to both flanks, complete with misdirection and play action. PM me if you'd like more information on this style of offense.
