We haven't had a player play higher than D2 in like 12 years. Heck we haven't had a player play in college in 2-3 years. And we are a successful team year in and year out. Our kids have no interest. It's sad. We are in RI though. The whole state is lucky if we get 1 or 2 players to go D1.

This is when you extort out of the college's recruiting anything you can. playbooks, game film, visits to spring practice, free beer. this is the time you have the nick saban's of the world by the short hairs.

Just a Tip...
When the college coaches show up on campus or at spring practice, ask them to talk for a minute or two to the kids about what things they look for as far as Attitude, Work Ethic, Character, and Grades.
We started doing that a few years ago, and it's funny, because all the things we tell them as their high school coaches... they kind of tune out from time-to-time. BUT, when the COLLEGE coaches tell them, the kids become the most attentive listeners in the world! It's a great way to reinforce the messages we try to teach them already.
Ironically, when coaching at the college level, we found the same to be true with regard to the pro scouts. We started asking those guys to briefly address the team as well. It's funny, because all the things that we told those guys at their coaches, they would usually tune out. BUT, when the PRO scouts would say the same things, it's like the kids' concentration increased 100-fold.
Take advantage of the opportunity for those of you who get it.

I guess the pros still need to find someone to talk to their players.

cant wait. Lets get these kids some schollies!
Funny story our HC told me- the year before I got to this school they had a talented receiver getting looked at a lil bit. A coach from Washington State visited our school during the football period and pulled him out of class. the kid came back grinning ear to ear laughing. he thought (and still does to this day) that coach found or knew a guy and put him in a WSU polo to motivate the kid... needless to say hes not at WSU... LOL

also maybe we should start a thread for highlight films of our kids... there are a couple college coaches that read these boards...

At the school I was at for the past 15 years we were pretty fortunate to put a kid into D1 or 1aa for the last 5 or 6 years. This year we have a 4-star RB and an OL who might go D1. There are some schools in our area that put multiple guys in D1 every year. The guy who I coach for now had 3 players drafted into the NFL last year and may get 2 more next year.

It might be a good idea to have a friend throw on a pair of slacks and a college-logoed polo, pretend he is a college coach from some 1-aa school... just to motivate your kids a little ... just a thought!

And then how will you deal with the kid and parent's expectations when nothing happens for them? Why would you lie or mislead a kid? How do you build trust that way? There are far better ways to motivate than that. So many of us have the problem of dealing with setting realistic expectations for players and parents in dealing with recruiting that is almost unfathomable to think a coach would have someone fake being a college coach.
We don't always have D-1 players, but there are plenty of coaches at other levels who will come by if you promote your players and are cooperative with those coaches.
